4/23/2026 5:06pm Surron had a prominent presence at Sea Otter, and a number of kids were riding these e-motos (along with pit bikes) throughout the expo in ways that were disruptive and inconsiderate. I’m still developing my perspective on high-powered eMTBs (which I consider a separate thing), but it’s hard to ignore how often these machines seem to encourage poor behavior — or at least attract it. I often hear the argument that it’s better for kids to be outside on bikes (of any sort) than indoors glued to their phones. In principle, I agree. But increasingly, it feels as though the...

4/21/2026 8:22pm I was replying in jest. I’m a tall guy at 6’2” so I really can’t stand slack seat angles on extra large bikes. Effective SA measurements on larger bikes are always random. If it’s too slack when you raise your seat, your body positioning gets put into a pretzel. One of my favorite bikes I used to own was terrible to climb, because the taller the seat the more my legs were put into a recumbent position. I also had to lean really far forward like I was on a road bike… I’ve learned It’s not quite as important on...

4/19/2026 10:57am While I fully empathize with your wish that DJI had focused on reducing weight rather than boosting power, it is unrealistic to think that they could go from 45-50lbs down to 38lbs. Their new M2S motor weighs about 5.75lbs, so they would need to get it down to 0lbs to achieve your target.

4/17/2026 1:11pm Specialized has been able to this point to keep ebikes up to 10 years old going with new parts, and within usually pretty quick turnaround, so it is possible, but they're in charge of their own parts catalog for that stuff and not many others are. Hoping this becomes the standard.

4/17/2026 10:34am Spot on Costs more than a YZ250, but a YZ250 I can take it in the woods or on the track and thrash it to within an inch of its life. Maybe even blow it up. But if that happens Sunday I can have the parts on the way to my front door that Monday and rebuild it myself or take it to any number of shops. And those parts should be available for five years. Long enough for a reasonable amortization of the original cost. Until e-bikes have similar I’m not interested.

4/16/2026 9:14pm Does anyone have a clue as to why all these longer travel e-bikes are coming out with 76° seat angles? I thought we had moved past this

4/14/2026 9:51am I think there’s more to it than weight. I got to ride the TQ Sight and the Avinox Pivot. I think they’re within 3 pounds of one another, both under 50 and despite the Norco having a longer (high pivot) rear end it was still markedly more playful than the pivot. The 800Wh battery stretched out in the downtube makes...

4/11/2026 2:12pm I’ve said it a couple times so apologies if it’s a broken record . The problem for me isn’t 150nm, or 1500watts. It’s 800% assist . Humans fundamentally make different choices when things are easy vs. hard . I can maybe go 20mph uphill on a trail on my meat bike , but only for an instant, then I’m gassed . So I never do that . When there’s suddenly no disincentive (it being exhausting) the total time spent of people going 20mph on blind single track is going to be much higher, thus the probability of isssue increases. At...
