2/26/2025 6:17pm It's because most of the dirt is flung from behind by the spinning front tire and the reverse arch blocks the seals from that.

2/26/2025 6:17pm I don't often run Manitou, but when I do, the seals and stanchions run noticeably cleaner than forks with the arch at the front. For both mud and dust. Wouldn't surprise me if having more airflow around the seal and lower part of the exposed stanchion is actually a small improvement.

2/25/2025 6:55pm what about applying it drunk the night before a ride, spilling half the lube on the floor then wiping the excess off the chain with a rag which is my current go to method?

2/25/2025 6:55pm Slight deviation from 1vs.2 piece calipers, mechanical transmission, and Giant's terrible naming...But you are all lubing your chain wrong
RotaLuber has started making this interesting oil applicator tool that disperses oil at the link pin and roller. They did send me one, and it works well with little fuss or mess. I wouldn't say it's something I can't live without now (I've haphazardly lubed my chain the same way for years, and things have been fine), but for those who want the right tool for every job, this likely scratches that itch. From RotaLuber: RotaLuber is designed to deposit...

2/25/2025 6:51pm TLDR: More volts = more betterer for design, and battery requirements, but not a huge impact to the end user if the design is done right. Complicated question and answer. There isn't a massive reason to favor a 48v system over a 36v system. The biggest advantage to a higher voltage system is within the formula/equation for current/watts/amps. Said another way... Amps = Watts / Volts. Here is an example... Assuming 750w power request/output by the motor. 750 watts / 48 volts = 15.6 amps 750 watts / 36 volts = 20.8 amps Batteries are generally more efficient the less...

2/24/2025 6:29pm Yes both Sram & Shimano higher tier chains last significantly longer. In terms of durability, using XO1/XX1 or XTR chain are more cost effective than running lower tier chain. Zero Friction Cycling tested XX1/XO1 and GX and found the XO1 to be the most cost effective: https://zerofrictioncycling.com.au/chaintesting/ The same is usually true also for Sram Cassette between GX and XO1 because of the better coating on the XO1 cassette versus GX. But Shimano cassette in terms of durability vs cost favor the SLX for 12 speed group since it has only the largest gear in alu while XT have the...

2/20/2025 7:48pm That bike is rad. Teeny L-beam seatstays and pocketed (but larger) chainstays. Looks practical to machine and keeps the chainstay stiffer than the seatstay for more roll and less wag. Good pedal stiffness but also good compliance. It will always be heavier than a tube for the same stiffness but (turns out) it's hard to machine a tube so this is a great solution and will be stiff enough for its weight. and it's cooler than a tube. It's neat that they can machine all these parts and still make money per bike... that's a lot of machine time. Funny...

2/20/2025 7:47pm norco's dh bike has a similar structure too (i know there's a better photo out there, but this was all i could find...look closely, you'll see it...seatstay sidecuts and chainstay bottom cuts)

2/19/2025 5:50pm Seems like the only reason for this to exist is to save on labour costs in installing the post in the factory. Another innovation I can live without.

2/19/2025 11:15am Kavenz also uses modular dropouts that retain compatability with UDH. As you alluded to, solutions are out there. Just a matter if those solutions play nice with the brands' industrial design.

2/19/2025 7:33am it definitely is targeted at home mechanics and those interested in fully servicing their own shocks. Can't comment on pricing yet, as they're still sorting out manufacturing. But i think it will be way more affordable than the "pro" options out there. I just got to test out one of their prototype machines and it turned out great. First time for me doing anything more than a lower leg service on my forks and with the service manual on hand and the guide of the machine it was quite enjoyable to work on.

2/17/2025 8:13am long time reader first time poster here.. friends of mine are developing an vacuum bleeder for shocks and fork dampers to fully service your suspension at home, without the need of messy handbleeding. I just got the chance to try the machine myself and it works pretty straight forward. I thought i spread the word in here because i think this is a pretty cool innovation in the mtb tech for home mechanics/ race day applications etc. https://www.futureliteindustries.com/
