9/29/2025 10:26pm I think @carlinojoevideo put it really well comparing the two setups, especially since he’s tested with data acquisition. I’ll add my long-winded reply just based on feel. My recent experience was comparing a smashpot Mezzer to an Avy hybrid 38 on the same bike. The Mezzer had a higher spring rate and is less damped when compared to my 38...

9/29/2025 8:23pm I’ve tried both styles, I think there is a time in place for both types of set ups. Using data acquisition tools. It’s really easy to get this bike set up one way or another. For me, less spring and more damper feels better on Terrain that is firmer(hardpack) and maybe less grip. Also less pitch, so like a moderate grade type trails. I like more spring and less/medium damping on the front once things get a little steeper, softer, like sandy or loam conditions. I think it’s very case and situational. Also, I think it depends on lots of...

9/28/2025 8:07pm So it took me way to long to stitch these together and export it properly, but I did this test with the tyre at 18psi and 26psi, the 18psi gave the best result. Using parts on hand like some springs around 11.8 N/mm, a 250g mass and a 600g(250+350) mass. (*edit using the 2 opposing springs halves the rate so more like 6 N/mm) The wheel alone is about 1800g so total system about 2.4kg Tyre rates are roughly 35N/mm @ 18psi and 44N/mm at 26psi BUT they are slightly progressive in the first few mm plus I trimmed the...

9/28/2025 7:58pm Some food for thought… let’s assume each leg is a cylindrical joint where it can slide linearly and rotate around the axis of said cylinder. A cylindrical joint on its own is equivalent to four points of contact. Six points of contact fully define the position of something in space. Two cylindrical joints is eight points of contact. Both right side up and upside down forks are technically over constrained and rely on flex and/or bushing clearance to move smoothly. In the world of aligning linear rails with bearing cars, you pretty much always have to float in at least...

9/28/2025 7:48pm Changing to a linkage driven single pivot similar to Kona from a Horst setup dramatically increases anti-rise at start of travel and it drops more over full travel. Comparatively, the changes Commencal has made barely change anything. I would hazard to guess that Commencal is more after changes in compliance than kinematics.

9/28/2025 6:21pm Not sure if this has been posted but got a picture of the bottom of the Brosnan's Boxxer at the US Open. I assume this is what's on the Zebb too.

9/26/2025 7:50am You mean like numerous specialized prototypes, intense prototypes, mondraker prototypes went into production right? That UCI rule only applies to road racing.

9/23/2025 7:55am In the Pinkbike article of the Flash 38 and Infinity WC, they state the target weight for the Flash 38 is ~2.5kg, which seems very reasonable.

9/23/2025 7:54am @Suns_PSD Larger 38mm stanchions should be stiffer all around, a 20mm axle with 2 pinch bolts/lug should be stiffer than 15mm w/ single pinch bolts. But the 15mm axle setup can also have a larger lug/hub interface. The air spring will be different due to the larger stanchions requiring a bigger piston and having a larger volume. The whole Flash 38 chassis is different. If you were running at 190mm on a heavy e-bike or DH bike, that would tip more to the F38. Has there been a weight published for the F38 yet? The F35 is pretty much 2300g...

9/20/2025 9:11am The Kavenz could actually fill both roles with the proper linkages, two shocks and two forks. Ideally, probably wheels as well. They also intend to release +30 dropouts in short(ish) order, if their socials are to be trusted. That would let you get even longer out back, should you desire that. You could then direct the savings to sick, custom-tuned suspension components and/or various conspicuous bling!

9/19/2025 9:09am Ive been playing this game a bit, leverage / spring / retune. and also using fluid focus. It's getting to be expensive, I'm considering trying Vorsprung shock where they give us the ability to change shim stack preload which widens our usable area for tunes. New tunes do help, but i've been trying all possible adjustment combinations and using data before sending for a retune, then I can give them some information, like; here are my shaft speeds and my clickers are at X, X, ect. you could do the same, say you try a link and then say this...

9/19/2025 9:08am All other things the same (ex. same shock) a higher starting leverage offers less compression support; lower starting leverage more compression support. Without changing the shock tune you will notice this leverage offset far more than you will notice the progression difference. On the Kavenz its a BIG offset (~0.3 between the links) with no crossover point like many flip chips. IMO the 3.25 starting leverage is about as high as you would want to go but the progression amount is pretty proportional and the curve looks reasonable. Somewhere in the 3-3.15 range is roughly what I would consider ideal...
