i'm seeing an add banner for fox live valve on this site and the shock doesn' t look similar since the live valve i know uses cables... did someone jump the gun?

Does anyone remember Paul Astons experience with DVO? Jesus that fork was worse than an entry level Suntour, who make and assemble everything for DVO. DVO blamed all the issues on Covid and them not been able to get to Taiwan to over see assembly. Well what was happening in the years before Covid when the product was still hit or miss? Hell the damper seal head has been crap and sticky since the Diamond. Oh BTW what you need is a 38mm fork.....

Not all "poppets" are equal. You can design a valve to fit the same space, that resembles a poppet valve but isn't digressive to the same degree as an X2 or CCDB shock. See the cone valve/spool valve discussion a few pages back. The design of the main piston makes a difference too - a large, solid (or close to) piston driving a ton of oil will tend more towards digressive, but a smaller piston with progressive opening shims will be more linear. Either way, you can make different valves with wildly varying damping rates, and for different reasons so...

Up to the end of last year I was fully in the camp 'make the bike fit for pedalling if it's meant to be pedalled and handle the downs with whatever you get'. First rule of frame design, ignore marketing crap. Compare a whole bunch of different designs in Linkage and realize that everyone is slowly converging on the same thing. The window of preferred anti-squat and leverage ratios is narrowing in on roughly 100% anti-squat at sag and a LR of 20-25% linear progression starting around 2.8 to 3.0. Anti-rise seems to still be down to designer tastes or a compromise of the chosen linkage platform / shock location. The more time you spend in Linkage the more you realize everything has already been done...and thus why the window of optimized designs...

The Manitou Dorado really is an incredible fork. They have the patent on the hex axle (guessing it expires soon) that resolved a lot of flex issues for DH diameter stanchions that moto forks don't have. Hayes just doesn't have the market penetration of Fox & RockShox, nor budget, to get it back on the top step. If a World Cup team w/ a proven winner tossed the Dorado on for next year, I have zero doubts it would hit the top step. Then suddenly people would pee their pants for Hayes/Manitou again.

Fox/rs would have their own reasons for not developing a usd fork (including tooling/development investment). Fox actually developed a usd dh fork at one point, pretty sure minarr and maybe gee were testing it? Apparently great in straight line, not so much in hard cornering and the weight increase required was beyond what they were willing to sell. I did my thesis on the torsional flex in usd forks, built a jig to actually get some data on them too. I also have a Dorado on my current bike, tbh I don’t feel any flex but I’m not a pro. What I like about USD forks is that you always get the same feeling, like when you service the lower…They might be a little bit heavier than regular forks but the small bump sensitivity is on top of everything. There are some teams that are running Dorado’s at world cups and they got some good results. Like someone said earlier, it’s all about money. Fox/Sram have deep pockets, Manitou on the other side are a small brand compared with these...

Me too, honestly I can’t say I feel the torsional stiffness in a good or bad way. But the fore-aft stiffness is hugely noticeable especially when landing something big

My guess as to why they're not as widespread is market share and who's got the thickest wallet come sponsorship time.
