Great time to be a buyer for used and new. Basically pro deals for all on new bikes, and far deeper discounts than that on used. Not so great to be a seller, but big depreciation when there is an oversupply is to be expected. In the last 5 years it seems everything has gotten more expensive (sometimes a lot...
BLE is the most fun bike ever. I ride mine more than anything and it just reminds me of why biking is fun!! We will keep selling them until there no more demand... But we are just limited by the batch sizes we can do. We know our bikes are expensive, but manufacturing here in the UK is expensive. And I promise we're not getting rich from doing this!! I think this is one of the key things people should think about when buying a new bike, do you want to make some fat cat buy another yacht or help...

Before I started making bikes, I had a variety of different designs, but had always preferred single pivots. They just felt more lively and engaging to ride. And even thought I was doing a bit of racing, I felt this was most important. It's never the bike that is slowing me down, so a bike that I felt most confident on was always going to make me the fastest. I think I nailed geometry pretty early on via quite a bit of testing of different variations. But pretty much for the whole of Starling's time, geometry has remained unchanged. We've...

I've always heard brake jack is terrible on single pivots. True/false/thoughts. I'll come back to Brake Jack, but in my experience it's no worse on our bikes. Just learn to brake in the right places, this is the most important skill for being a good rider!

That was incredible racing! Great way to start the '25 season. Was up past 10pm watching with my 11yo daughter, glued to the a screen, whooping it up. Coverage was awesome. Commentary, well, as good as it gets! Unreal riding by everyone. That course was really cool.

From what I can gather, almost all D2C and online fulfillment will eventually be consolidated into that massive warehouse in SLC they picked up roughly a year or so ago. Along with many other things like all warranties, wheel/suspension services, and their internal schooling. As for all the well wishes…thank you. I’ve been turning wrenches for almost 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve had the rug pulled out from under me. I’ve already poked my head around locally and pinged some friends and things don’t look horribly bleak, so I got that going for me…which is nice.

I got a 9am text message from our regional manger saying to give him a call, he said we were shut down, and to refer to one of our HR people with any questions. We’ve got three days to get our personal stuff out of the building, and they’re thankfully paying us through the month of February so all of us have a fighting chance to possibly find work. There was no warning, no communication from anyone high up enough in the company that could make a decision like this, and little to no remorse for booting six people out...

That super duper sucks. Sorry man. Do you get two weeks or a severance package, or just "bye" in email form?

We all know the theory: lower tire pressures mean more grip, and higher pressures roll faster. But when it comes to real-world speed, which one really wins? I set out to answer this with 30 timed runs down the same track. ◾ The Experiment Two sets of tire pressures were chosen for my 88kg (194lbs) weight: 25/28 psi (front/rear) for the higher pressures and 18/20 psi (front/rear) for the lower pressures. These pressures maintain a consistent 0.9 front-to-rear ratio, with the high pressures aligning with recommendations such as those from E13 . After three warm-up laps, each tire pressure setup...

I still ride toe clips on my track bike... but I'm also stuck in the 2005 era messenger fad. Yes, I have a chrome bag and stretched ears. Yes, I was a messenger. No, I didn't make more than minimum wage doing it.

Does anyone really want to read my 42 years of mtbing stories? Or maybe you've been on a ride, bike or lift, with me and already heard them. I'll start with toe clips since that's what brought us all together here. And since google couldn't find a photo of a Rivat cyclocross shoe I will have to post one of the few old photos I could find of myself wearing the shoes. Back story for the photo, this may have been 84ish, Pearl Izumi photo shoot. After this photo I told the photographer about the "jumps" behind our house and...

I raced my first national dh race in ‘94 on toeclips and a rigid fork. Missy Giove bunnyhopped my carcass in the first corner of my first practice lap, and we’ve been pals ever since.

1990 Stumpjumper Comp. Full XT with top mount shifters. Panaracer Smoke/Dart combo. Flite saddle, Onza bar ends, Shimano 737 clipless pedals. I did used to ride to clips and had some Nike mtb shoes that definitely had a sole that locked pretty well in against the top rear of the pedal. It’s still at my parents place and, to my girlfriend’s chagrin, now it’s coming back on the plane with us next trip to visit.

Am I the only one here who has ever ridden toe clips? I feel old. I am old I guess. I used to ride my toe clip pedals in soccer cleats with rubber spikes for better foot retention. Nice and tight in the chunder on my fully rigid bike but soft enough to be able to rip them out when in need. I's like to think that I inspired this thread with this post from the Tech Roumors thread. My first was a Schwinn Sidewinder which was like a factory klunker with two brakes and five gears. Then a Dorado...

First proper MTB was a ‘93 Marin Muirwoods. Upgraded almost every component on it including some Marzocchis XC51s - they kept blowing up so ended up with some Manitou M-Sport. Loved them. Eventually swapped the frame out for a Univega Aluminum 703 with RS Psylo XCs, XT V brakes and Azonic bug rise bars. Loved that bike. Also had some (and still got somewhere) the original PD-636 DX pedals, after using I think Tioga Toe clips and pedals for a few years..

Smash a thumbs up on this post if you confirm all three: 1) you know what a Bassworm is, 2) you know how to install one, 3) you installed one on your own bike. I do, I do, and I did.
