THIS. A lot of folks seem to be comparing doping for road to doping for EWS races, and that's simply not doable. Yes, while doping for the 'up' could leave you fresher and more attentive for the 'down', it depends on the athlete and their entire supplement regimen, training, etc. AND there is always a tradeoff when you take PED-like substances -- too much caffeine, for example, will leave you shaky and wired with a possible twitch, which can mean disaster in a heavy rock garden or high speeds. These substances are no different. As someone who now has to...

No dog in this fight, only an observation that seemed to me not really touched on. If I did overlook it, then my apology for suggesting otherwise. The issue with a test that is intended as a surprise/no prior notification is that there’s no guarantee that it was a 100% secret. Corruption, rules breaking, and other illicit intentions are not solely limited to competitors or their support staff. Assuming that anyone who passed in this situation is pure and innocent is potentially just as much a fallacy as assuming those who tested positive was due to an honest mistake is...

Great discussion so far. Thanks to all for contributing. J Brines, when I read the rules on the EWS site that you linked, they are clear to me, although I do admit I had to read them a few times. You dodge the test or don’t comply with the testing procedures, you loose. You fail the test they (they being...

Not sure if it's been stated already. If any joker from Wada, etc is sharing preliminary info with their dipshit friends - especially those who post (or tease) unverified rumors on the internet, that should raise bigger questions about the legitimacy of the organization. Boycotts never work, but if this gets leaked - the ship should sink.

Stik, the CG vid was from a while back, 2017 I think. Everybody be cool. There has been no official information released at this time. Respect the athletes who make our sport so awesome to watch and inspire us to push ourselves. Don’t speculate or spread false information about who might be involved.

All rumors right now at 3pm MST 11/11/18. Until we have some facts or an official statement from the EWS HQ, I think it’s better to not say any names or speculate. If this situation is real and people failed drug tests, it is a BIG deal that could end someone’s racing career. So everybody be cool until there are...

It’d be insane if Maes won on a Sunday. A massive upset. And I totally agree with Spomer. What a great rivalry! Maes seems like a really nice guy. This guy is the real deal and can do both disciplines at once and win. It’s all in good fun and let’s face it, he hauled some serious ass in absolutely...

"i did it for the enduro spirit and it's good to beat the DH boys at their own game." i thought it was freaking awesome. he just won a world cup DH race! i say rub that shit in regardless of weather etc LOL. he was amped and it showed. who doesn't love a rivalry like this??? everyone talks about DHers winning EWS races, now it got flipped. plus he's been successful in DH before. it's not like he's some roadie on a...

Buy a used 140-160mm travel bike that’s half way decent for somewhere between $2-4K. 2-3 years old is fine. There are some killer deals on lightly used bikes right now. Frankly, it’s insane. Many companies are completely sold out of desirable models costing $5-8k. People flip them fast and it means the used market is really good. Ride it on...

Jeff, I’m still not convinced that more travel would equal less pinch flats. Tire pressure, suspension travel, spring preload, compression dampening, and the size and type of hit to the tire and rim would all factor in to wether or not you would blow through a tire straight to the rim before the suspension went through all it’s travel Watch...

This is a great point. These guys are at 1200-1300gms/tire plus a cushcore which is another 250gms(?) plus a bunch of sealant. I think Graves commented somewhere a while back (earlier this season) that his tire setup as described above was over 1600gms. Why not put another 200-300gms of rubber on the casing for guys like RR and loose the...

In a recent video with Sam Hill at the Whistler EWS, he was walking the track talking about line choices and he made several comments about picking lines that keep you out of big compressions even if it's a fraction of a second slower. He emphasized the toll those compressions would take on your bike and body over the course of the whole race. I think that mindset and strategy is one of the reasons he's been so successful the last two years. It seems like he's able to carry a faster average speed over an entire stage (and race)...
