Sterling Foest State Park and Ringwood State Park are both about an hour from the George Washington Bridge and offer the most contiguous singletrack in the immediate area. https://www.palisadesmtb.org/ is the local advocacy group for Sterling and just opened a fantastic new trail this month. Agreed that this motor/CVT is predictable, inevitable, and nonetheless a really BFD for the ebike market and makers of traditional derailleur-driven drivetrains. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but high performance eMTB sales represent a very small market, whereas the real effects of this are going to be seen in the touring/commuter/pavement pounder market. I'd wager Shimano and SRAM sells 100 times more derailleurs/shifters/cassettes to the touring/commuter/pavement pounder ebike market vs. what they sell for high end eMTBs.

I think the one advantage a US operations based bike company may have (for the longest time into the future) when compared to a Chinese company is accessible customer support. The number of warranty issues I’ve had with bike frames and suspension products has to be close to 50%. I’m currently working through a multi-frame warranty issue as we speak. I have no reason to believe that a Chinese based company is going to have exceptionally better quality than the current established brands. As a person in the bike indusrty for 30+ years, Owned a bike store for 6 years, And has owned 5 Yeti's one of which is still my favorite bike my 2021 SB 160E still going strong. Today was eye opening! The MGU and CVT is real. DJI is not a copycat, And will eat the big 3 bikes brands lunch now. And the sixfinaty Yeti pedal bike is around the corner. Weird day..

I think all the new tech coming down the road will all be here faster than we realize. Like the early days of the iphone, a new one every 6 months.

For the people who complain about too many bikes being horst link now--get ready it'll be all of them soon. Being able to easily split the rear triangle makes belt drive possible. The most interesting news breaking this first day of the show has to be the arrival of motor-gearbox units from Avinox and Gobao. Names that until a year ago didn't mean anything in the mountain biking world are now set up to disrupt the market once again, and from where we're sitting, it's hard to imagine them failing at this point. You'd be surprised. The Surrons around here are decked out in Fox factory, EXT, etc suspension, anodized MTB parts, TRP DHRs, etc. The overlap in customers is significant.

I worked as a brewer at a brewery and also did a bit of time as a homebrewer. Lots of Belgian-style beers that called for some spritely carbonation which inevitably means some of them become too carbonated. I'd be wearing goggles if I needed to pop one of those things open. I'm sort of surprised there hasn't been an incident yet!
