Is anyone else kinda rubbed the wrong way by this? I have respect for Gwin’s legacy but if we’re going to cut out privateers and make racers compete for spots at world cups, I don’t think this should be allowed. There’s fewer spots available and if Gwin can “rock up” to any world cup he wants, he’s likely taking that wildcard spot from an up and coming rider who is working their ass off for it. Again, I love seeing him line up at races but if he wants to play the game I think he should play by the...

One has to wonder at the impact of brands like Specialized having nearly their entire catalog on blowout pricing for the last 2 years has had on some of these small to medium size players and their ability to survive. Id have to guess it is notable but hard to quantify. If you're positioned in a semi-premium space selling frames and complete bikes, but a bunch of your fringe competition has their bikes/frames long term discount priced at $1-4k less what they used to be, that really changes the marketplace dynamics. Specialized dumping SJ and SJ Evos at stupid prices...

If I remember right Gwin started the whole uncaged thing at YT, specifically because he thought it was most beneficial for riders and himself to be able to have their own kit and component sponsors. He made it sound like he wasn't exactly happy with some of his previous contracts for kit and components, but that was ages ago so I could be wrong. On the other hand super cool to have pros here.

If Jesse had said "Jack told me...", or "I have info that...", then the chance he got info directly from Jack would be high. However, he said "I think..." several times, as well as "my guess is...". I'm not industry connected, so I have no personal experience in rider contracts. But my understanding is that most are pretty secret, and nobody really knows what anyone else getting. Jesse is entitled to his opinion, and he (hopefully) has very good experience with his won contracts, though you would be surprised how many people don't know what's in their employment contracts. But...

It isn't. Hikers aren't expecting bikes to be passing them uphill at almost 30MPH just like pedestrians aren't expecting cars to be passing them on the sidewalks.

The Class 3 is 8mph extra, from 20mph to 28mph, or 40% faster, so not 3mph.

Depends. Do you often take the cars on mixed use trails with hikers, dogs and slower cyclists?

Around me where we ride alot of state parks, there is no one giving tickets, but there is swath of people who don't want bikes on any of the trails. They love to conflate any poor interaction to anyone who rides bikes. We have tons of mutli use paths that connect trails. Its gone take one bad accident and we may lose bikes in our parks. They don't care if its EMBT or what class. Its a bike to them. I don't understand why anyone needs to go that fast pedaling. Commuter on road, sure.I was trying to figure out...

Speeding cars are normally caught by speed cameras or cops with radar guns, doubt that there are going to be cops on trails checking the bikes. The fact that bikes have speed restriction and cars do not is a puzzle in this day and age.

All highly physically demanding sports have risks. Football players, race car drivers, moto, rugby, hell even road cycling. I used to compete at the highest level of North American big mountain freeskiing in the 00s. In the ~8-9 years I was around, three people died in contest runs. I’m not sure what the right answer was for the sport at the time, but people clearly knew the potential hazards and continued to participate. And that participation wasn’t out of the hope of getting paid or making a career. Very very few people could do that in the sport at the...

Moir was definitely getting financial support from SRAM. If he wasn't he would have stayed with them for '25. YT is 'uncaged' letting them run whatever they want. But it doesn't mean they can't have deals with component suppliers, on the side. As Jesse pointed out, normally, the component brands like SRAM and Shimano sponsor 'the team'. So, in Jesse's case, SRAM money flows to Canyon and then the team pays Jesse. With the YT Uncagged thing, the team pays the rider and they will support their riders by buying the components they want to run on their bikes. In...

The amount of marketing Moir did for SRAM—starring as the guy who chose to run a full loadout of their parts (including that aforementioned way too-short dropper) on YT’s uncaged team—and he’s not also getting a check? In-kind payments are definitely payments but come on: the dude karate chopped a shark in half during a bottom turn, from what I understand. Slanging merch like that without coming off as a chump isn’t easy and the guy is too funny not to be sharp. Upon reading your reply…yeah…I don’t believe it! But you’ve changed my mind on VP of Cycling Events...

Party Foul. Some will blame the taping crew for not blocking off spectators. I blame everyone standing here. STAY OUT OF THE APEX of turns. You block sight lines & in this case, you literally block the line & put racers in danger. And no, it's not an oopsie. I've had my bar ripped out my hand by dip wads leaning into the track. Can you imagine Gwin's season or career ending in this turn?

I agree. To expand on your thoughts, I would say that profitable factories are both focused and not spread thin, regardless of the SKU count. I think that is where a bit of the marvel in production/engineering ability of these huge companies comes from, at least for me.

Not sure how you are going to get a 250mm dropper, to fit into 400mm total length, when the 250 has to fit into the lower half (150mm in this case), plus the seat mount, the collar & the mechanism at the bottom. Would need to collapse like an old timey telescope like sailors used to use!
