The fact that bender is a judge still is crazy. What does that mean know about technical lines or flat flipping a drop.

The bending stiffness of a tube increases to the fourth power with respect to diameter... Ie bigger tubes are way fucking stiffer than smaller tubes. But steerers are flexy, crowns are flexy, and axle interfaces are flexy. If you put some effort into locking the two tubes together then they work together and will flex together, and this also massively increases stiffness. The keyed axle of the Mattoc or a 20mm axle with four pinchbolts like the old 36, the bulky crown like a lyrik, all help to make the most of their tube stiffness. The flexy modern 36 with...

Here we are thinking that Shimano is releasing the new Saint cranks soon. But what they are actually going to sell us is a “Saint” sticker to slap on a crank of our choice for $300. Modern Problems. Modern Solutions.

You're missing out on the fact that the teams are private businesses and they don't have to hire anyone. If they don't want someone with potential baggage, that's their prerogative. Given that racing is essentially done exclusively for marketing, it's no surprise that the big teams are taking a pass on him. There's not some grand conspiracy trying to hold back your boy, just businesses doing cost/benefit analysis to what he'd bring to their brand image.

Ugh, SC using the term "pedal bike" as if cyclists weren't bad enough at naming things with things like "clipless pedals".

Well a person has two options: 1) Try to make the best decisions possible (vote with your dollar) while still living life. This is in regard to sustainability, social causes, etc. OR 2) Take up direct action to spark a groundswell revolution and remove the late-stage capitalist system that will ultimately destroy the planet if not reigned in. Very few if any are choosing number two, so might as well strive for option one. Or just pick nihilism and wait for it all to crumble anyway.

Our enjoyment of the sport and products in 2010 and 2024 should be assumed to be relatively equal. We only know things are better now because we can look back in history and recalculate the value of the experience using todays metrics. Top of the line product back then, psychologically, felt just as good as top of the line product today. I would not conclude that the increase in price has resulted in a better experience for any user.

Seriously, the transparent marketing just hurts. SC makes nice bikes, VPP is nice, long link four bars are nice, but the cognitive dissonance in marketing messages is fatiguing.

"We know our e-bike customers don't care or even know what VPP is so here's a bike that says SANTA CRUZ on it." (Am I too cynical?)

i love to see e-bikers saying " No - I’ve made it this far on my own, and I’ll keep being the captain of this ship!" 😆

Ahhh yes, the Euro Cup. I hope Crankworx steps up and fills in the international gaps since it currently has a better spread than the actual world cup series. I do kind of get it, getting into the US when you're not from Canada can be a nightmare, even just for an ESTA country. I've recently had a friend who was flying home to Aus detained at a Canadian airport after clearing US customs after their flight was cancelled last minute from Vancouver and re-routed through San Francisco because they had not been told they needed an ESTA even to...

Easy there comrade 😜 I totally agree that that's the case for the majority of people in the world , especially these days . But that post was specifically about Chris Ball who all things considered, I believe, has done pretty well for himself over the last few years. So if someone who can afford to say NO to his corporate overlords doesn't , then what chance do the rest of us have . Chris Ball is not the poster child for the oppressed worker . Anyway, pleased it looks like Atherton racing might continue .

I'm struggling to work out who is less wrong here - but yes a bike absolutely has anti squat (and anti rise) without a chain on it. The bike is being pushed by the swingarm which can pivot, so the response of the rider weight means it will likely try to tip one way or the other. The chain is just a second torque being added to the equation which can offset that moment. I think this needs its own thread

A run down of Enduro in Canada to see why its falling apart at a national and regional level in some places I know in Canada, the current National series used to be the BC which was western BC focused and KR with was Eastern BC/Alberta focused series that were run by the same crew, which was great, both had a 4-5 great stops and the cost of them was pretty reasonable, i think about $75 a pop. I could race the whole KR service from Calgary for about $800 a year for 4-5 races on weekends and maybe fit...
