i'm pretty blown away to have to say this to grown adults (i assume) in our forum, but every time someone trolls or says something you don't like, quoting it and explaining why it's lame/unsavory/kooky/political only makes the thing you dislike live on for days. in the history of the internet, has anyone ever changed their mind and said "you're right," after being challenged/critiqued/criticized/called out in a forum? not that i'm aware of. the garbage has been moderated for now. if you don't like something said here, use the thumbs down, move on, watch it die and it'll be forgotten...

I'm sure there is a thread from 20 years ago on RideMonkey that basically has many of the same talking points. The big point I'm trying to make is mountain biking is mountain biking. Its not road cycling, F1, moto, ski racing or ________. It has its own nuances, fans, athletes etc. The faster we all build the sport around what makes this sport great, not what makes other sports great, the better off we'll be as athletes, fans and companies. I could see the social media the social media stuff your mentioning as a way to add color to watching live timing if you can’t actually tune into the broadcast, but I can’t say I personally get much out of it. With most of the races in Europe, I’d prefer to just watch the broadcast after the fact when I have the time, or watch a highlights package if I’m short on time.

I think mtb on the whole is on the rise and will continue to be for a long time. But international dh racing is a very small part of it and just about everything eso is doing is hurting the very healthy place it grew to be when it was broadcast for free at a high level by redbull.

For now, but as the snow gets thinner every year, I think more people will look at those dirty bikes and think "oh I'll have a go" Not to mention as ski seasons get shorter, I do think ski areas will start packaging in summer activities to your seasons pass

I agree. I like Ric for the race preview scripts for DH XC and Enduro. Hell he can even do the post race recap but as far as commentary for the live races... There's just something he's missing. My brother in MTB-christ, although Zink was fantastic today, we must be honest with ourselves. His run was great and his story and career have been nothing but phenomenal. Zink's contributions to the sport are nearly unmatched. Ain't no way he won today. Especially not by the amount he won by. Brendog's line was absolute insanity, frankly the craziest line I think i've ever seen anyone ride. Beinve front flipped a f*****king canyon. Twice. Zink is the man, love him, but no way that run was worth 95 points. Every year there's very questionable judging at Rampage and this year...

Another year of amazing riding and bizarre judging. Trying to make sense of that ranking makes my head hurt.

Another super annoying thing, the rider’s time is always shown in green. Then a small little line shows up under it to let you know if the rider went slower or faster. Super confusing when we’ve all been used to seeing green only for faster times for years They were told about this after the first race but never cared to change it. (I know that green is their main theme color, that doesn’t mean it has to be used for the time graphic). A small detail but it shows they are not really listening or caring.
