4/12/2026 9:25am My PhD advisor's brother was a professional motocross rider until he ended up in a wheelchair after his visor got stuck in terrain in a low-speed crash. That was 30-something years ago with a motorcycle helmet, but there's something to be said for breakaway items that might create leverage on your neck. I'll take a facial injury before I give up the use of my limbs.

4/12/2026 9:23am Looks like RS is about to roll out a pretty big refresh at Sea Otter 👀 Saw a new Lyrik today on one of the latest Habit builds, plus what looks like an updated Vivid Air. The Vivid sticks pretty close to the new coil version in terms of reservoir layout. Lyrik’s getting LinearXL like the new Boxxer, and there are vent valves under the crown too. Definitely some interesting updates coming.

4/12/2026 9:22am Wonder what will happen with that product. Joe Breeden himself seem to be doing some product development with Wolftooth. Picture from MBUK

4/12/2026 9:22am 15 years ago we had an athlete turn up with their fit numbers all out of whack, old bike gone back to sponsors etc etc, BUT: they had a sticker prominent on seat tube that was identical to one on my tool box. I managed to print an a3 image of the old bike and translate all the measurements with a pencil and ruler. It took quite a while, but ended up bang on. Saddle height, offset, reach, bar height, stack. All this by hand…

4/12/2026 9:19am If you can find an Avinox dealer willing to purchase them for you, yeah it's possible. The Avinox portal in the UK had all the old M1 stuff listed but they're struggling with warranty at the moment so I think it's all being kept for that... cracks are appearing.

3/22/2026 11:38am Nah. Top tube straight continuous to seat stays is very 2020. Now it’s all about the grasshopper. Steep down tube to low flat chainstay. And I’m all for it. Maybe your right, straight line is industrial design where grasshopper, is sex. as long as no one does steeper chainstays than top tube. 🤮

3/22/2026 11:38am My understanding is that manufacturers mostly build carbon frames from the ground up (as opposed to being assembled from pre-manufactured tubes, a la Atherton Bikes), and that layup patterns don't vary much or at all between sizes ( with a few notable exceptions). But that might be old wisdom on my part, and perhaps the industry is more sophisticated in the way it designs layup patternds now. Maybe everyone is tuning thickness and layup pattern between sizes, but only a few brands are explicitly advertising it. Here's an example of Unno's layup for the Dash 130:

3/20/2026 9:12am I actually love the way the new float X2 feels, my friend bought one too and he says it feels better than his old DHX2 coil. You can name it what you want when it rides as good as it does.

3/19/2026 1:45pm Honestly, the Reya is the first XC bike that I really, really want to try as a 6'3" individual. I feel like that jack nichelson nodding meme as I work my way down the geo chart on the XL. Edit: Can we also agree that peak bike industrial design is a straight top tube that aligns directly with the seat tube... connecting the top of the head tube to the rear axle with an un-interrupted straight line?

3/19/2026 5:57am I know this is dangerously close to a chainstay derail, but I love that Forbidden made a 120mm bike with a 464mm chainstay in the XL size. That's real long, but if you don't like it you can buy literally any other XL lightweight 120mm bike. Curious how it rides. Could be sick. [Editor's note: I THINK THIS COUNTS AS AN INNOVATION]

3/19/2026 5:55am Considering it only has a spot for one water bottle it makes total sense for it to have internal storage. I don't do a single ride without 750ml of water in my frame storage. It's literally the ideal spot to add that type of weight for the bike's handling. It's very freeing to do a 3hr ride with no pack. Most other XC/DC bikes have a spot for a 2nd bottle so the weight is already there (in a worse spot) if you're on a big ride. It's wild to me how many people have gaslighted themselves into believing that...
