9/26/2024 4:00am Hmm, not sure why you assume I’m “not running proper equipment.” My bike is built for riding in legit terrain where shit can go sideways. Thankfully, it rarely ever does - exactly because I “run proper equipment” - but if/when shit does happen I want at least a fighting chance of riding my bike out of the woods. I’ll take the minimal weight penalty of some bits and pieces rather than hiking out.

9/25/2024 1:02am Thanks for the detailed answer! Also worth mentioning that 26 degrees of float at the freehub sounds like a ton, but it translates to something like 11.5 degrees of float at the crank if you're in a 34:15 gear combo (34:15 is 2.26:1, pretty standard for the middle of a DH run). 11.5 degrees at the crank is pretty darn similar to the max degrees of float on a new Ochain, and that 12 degree Ochain setting bothered me not at all when I was riding bike park laps, shuttling, or doing winch and plummet riding.

9/23/2024 7:26am Once again BOS is intentionally choosing a pointless stanchion size for the sole purpose of fucking up the few customers who were willing to give them a shot and try something new when BOS inevitably folds the MTB side of the business.. There's several options on the market from seemingly stable, boutique suspension manufacturers, whether it's just dampers or full forks/shocks. I don't know why you'd pick the one that launches a product on a Monday and ceases to support it by Thursday, but instead of choosing something like a 35, 36 or 38mm stanchion on the forks which would...

9/13/2024 12:17pm while i agree that many riders often have "more" bike than they need for a given trail, i'm not sure if this comes from a desire to be "overbiked" or just that many riders have one bike. they need it to cover many different kinds of terrains and difficulty levels - which results on inherently being overbiked on some trails.

9/13/2024 11:35am Correct. I helped lay out the new tune names etc. We had the issue where a M tune on a Super Deluxe did not match the M tune on a Deluxe and that did not match the M tune on VIVID... Also- we had a shock with extra L1, L2, L3 and L4 tunes (in addition to normal L, M and H), they were not spaced evenly and no one could remember if L1 was lighter or heavier than a L2 tune. So we went to numbers that meant something on the dyno. We wanted OEMs to be able to...

9/11/2024 3:05pm AREK HAS BEEN OVERTAKEN THE ERA OF STEVE HAS ARRIVED Wish there was a more solid way to know mathematically who is still in it. I'm assuming anybody near the top is really gonna play to win last round and aren't just casual users throwin darts at a wall (tho this seasons conditions may benefit from that). I suppose if average score is ~650, and you think some of the top performers will score closely, realistically you don't wanna be 650 off the top spot to even have a chance. So because of that I'd say you kinda gotta be...

9/8/2024 9:25am I don’t really have an opinion when it comes to inter-rider relationships, ‘good for them’ is as far as I’ll comment. I was amused at the commentary from the lads on the B-Practice podcast acknowledging the middle-aged male audience, and not knowing whether or not it was newsworthy. But I fully agree with you: no room WHATSOEVER for it in the live broadcast, just like we don’t need a slo-mo of the top part of the run while the rider is still on course. Your point about Myriam shows just how out of balance it was, and the bottom line...

9/5/2024 2:57am If they are pumping up on rapid pulls but work consistently otherwise, as a general rule, it could be due to 2 different causes. 1. If the pumping up is taking you from an excessively long lever throw to a normal one, that is usually due to a poorly maintained brake that is low on fluid and/or has excessively worn pads, and/or has stick caliper pistons. Basically, the system is at a point where a single lever pull can barely generate enough fluid volume to activate the brake fully, so you need to "stack" multiple pulls on top of each...

8/3/2024 4:39pm Curious what y'all know about the new Specialized tires with tire dampening technology. Is that like a mud conditions tire for wet terrain? Or is it a dry tire, but it dampens the dirt so it becomes wet and tacky?

7/30/2024 2:14am Ok, I've shit on Scott's internal shock designs on here forever and while if I'm being honest, the long travel bikes do look good, my minds not changing on the serviceability side of things and that their bikes are a consumer nightmare. Why are they pushing the internal shock thing so hard? Is it just to be different? Is it to have a selling point to some "needs the cool new thing" consumer out there because their bikes didn't have any real reason to buy them over another bike until they had a unique thing? That isn't actually that unique...

7/25/2024 12:43pm I spent a day on Transmission on a rented bike the other day and it did shift impressively. Still, I remain a bit of a caveman and as such I prefer X01 11 speed on my Relay (all steel cassette, light, cheap, great shifting) and an XTR 11 speed on my Smuggler. It's not a money issue though. It's ground clearance and weight which notably effects rear suspension performance. But also, my previous AXS ruined 2-3 rides due to battery issues and losing a day of riding to have a .1% cleaner shift, is not a tradeoff I want to...
