Who said they have to be different? The beauty of it being mounted concentric to the axle is that you can spin it around.

This is Atherton's brand new HQ in Wales. Do you know how much a brand new purpose building like this costs? Lots of ££££££, before you pay dollar one on staff costs. Whenever I see big cool new shiny corporate HQ's in bike world, I think the companies think it's supposed to impress me, but it just worries me. A lot of the Bellingham companies got shiny new offices in high rent areas in the last 5-10 years and each of them took my breath away in a not-so-great way.

@jeff.brines, one QQ and not because I disagree just because I'm not sure what you mean. " At its core, majority of my thesis revolves around this idea that you can't have the infrastructure of a larger company which they appear to have without the revenue to justify it." What about their infrastructure gives you the impression of a larger company? By larger company do you mean something on the scale of Rocky, Norco, or on the scale of Evil, Yeti?

This is a fairly new thing now, for the longest time a frame up build required basically all new components. And selling a frame on the used market is usually harder than a complete bike. Even with deals you are mentioning I still doubt it makes it worth doing a parts build vs. a complete bike for most people... The price delta with bikes stuff is just too big, at least on msrp. Doing my Bird build in 2019 it cost me 4500 eur, an equal build with a Raaw Madonna with German prices would be 7500 eur (didn't look...

So what does a company do if they have a new unreleased update to one of their bikes, but just said they are turning off the lights? These companies that are heading out pasture all have current and likely new bikes sitting on the shelf, how are their supplies going to be absorbed? I would like to see some gorilla marketing campaigns of yesterday year, none of these Norco ridiculous welcome video shenanigans.

First let me say I am an Atherton fanboy, I own two of them and they are a fantastic bike so some of this might be biased. Two other comments to follow up on first. @SteveClimber, yes I fall into that 40-50 demographic but no I don’t get enough time hurtling down mountains or own a DH rig. @sweaman22, yes getting a Atherton landed to you in Canada is expensive, and has only gotten significantly more expensive from the first one I bought to the second one to now. I think we are mixing two business into one in this...

You're combining several topics here, like manufacturing in Asia vs. domestically. Apples to apples, cnc lug and round tube frame construction is less expensive than both hand-laid carbon frames or welded, hydroformed, alloy frames. The former, per frame project, will have a lower Capex up to a certain volume, then the latter will gain the advantage as volumes increase. There are many unknowns for me: I don't have knowledge of what additive manufacturing costs are, and I don't know how many units they are moving. My assumptions is that they are still comfortably in the low volume zone, with enough...

There are many current and recently ex-employees from Rocky, and almost all of them had no bearing on the current financial outcome of the company.

I can assure you there's less Capex with their method of manufacturing than the traditional carbon molding methods. Same goes for their alloy frames vs. traditional construction methods. Their unit costs might be a touch higher and might not scale as easily or cost effectively but my assumption is they don't sell enough frames to be successful the traditional way with amortizing tooling costs so it seems they are taking the right approach. Capex can higher on alu projects than carbon ones, but the volumes with alloy make it worthwhile to turn a profit. For all small and medium brands...

Remi on spesh. Ok - but no chance they’re paying him to travel around the world to get 30th on a circuit with zero coverage. I’m not being mean here - just truth. Same with Blenki - guy was cooked (results -wise) 3-4 years ago. There’s zero chance anyone picks him up to race wc dh. On a similar note, Lucas Cruz - has he ever had a result? And Norco is taking him to all the WCs? Again, not being mean - just facts. I think he has a family connection at Norco but there’s no way anyone’s expecting...

Given that it was probably SRAM's lawyers that were responsible for 5dev discontinuing the udh mod kit, ordering the biggie kit sooner rather than later is probably a good plan if you think you might want one.

Having inventory with all of the sizes, build options, etc. is so 2019. Build to order is the way forward.

Definitely agree on making some speculations at this point! Smile About your Atherton Bikes statement: I am able to go to checkout if I have chosen a fitting frame size. Maybe what you are experiencing is a US thing? Regarding the rumor mill for 2025: Still heard that BMC will stop the Scor "project"

We should probably do a few predictions posts, eh? I've got a number of thoughts going into the new year, and will synthesize them into one post, but I do think we're going to see more companies pull the plug this year. I'll go out on a limb and say Atherton Bikes may be one of those stragglers who calls it quits. I have literally no data on this, so please take this with a huge grain of salt, but when I was poking around their website I realized I can't just "buy it now" with respect to a frame...

We have entered the part of silly season where people float (and debate!) wild speculation that a 42 year old Dan Atherton returns to downhill (last result was 57th at Crankworx in 2018) on a new rubber band bike to chase a $100k podium. Perhaps we need an award for most ridiculous rumor every year. 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, and the relevance to MTB is the fact that the demand for 40/58's for e-moto's is significant and why haven't any of the established suspension companies pursued that market which at this point looks poised to dwarf the MTB DH fork market.

I probably service 1 of those a year, and one I did recently had done about 10,000k without a service and was in pretty damn good condition inside. The USD concept of keeping oil on the bushings is way more beneficial than people give it credit for.

Is the rumored USD fork a MTB fork or e-Moto? Is anyone paying attention to all the new players in the e-moto business and what impact it's having on the traditional moto and mtb/e-bike market. As a father of a teenage boy I'm constantly being informed about the all the new products. How about Sirris suspension, my son says rumor is former Fox and Ohlins employees. https://ridesirris.com/
