1/5/2025 6:39am We have entered the part of silly season where people float (and debate!) wild speculation that a 42 year old Dan Atherton returns to downhill (last result was 57th at Crankworx in 2018) on a new rubber band bike to chase a $100k podium. Perhaps we need an award for most ridiculous rumor every year. 🤣🤣🤣

12/15/2024 2:57am When you order it, it does actually come tuned for you already. But since a lot of people love tinkering with their setups, we figured we'd try to make it easier rather than obstruct their efforts.

12/15/2024 2:56am Nope this is right in line. Less then a push 11.6, about the same as a custom tuned EXT. people got to realize that decent suspension is expensive. All the money people spend on carbon and goofy stuff but they want to cheap out on the squishy bits that make mtbs offroad capable.

12/15/2024 2:56am Having spent a good long while on the Telum on my Dreadnought v2 all I can say is that it's everything I'd expect it to be and more. Honestly for how well built, thought out, and amazing this shock is I am honestly impressed it doesn't cost more. Between the shock, the tune hub and just Vorsprung's ethos to customer care and service, I can that it's been worth every cent I've paid for it. Also, Steve and the team at Vorsprung are just solid humans. I ended up having a couple needs on the shock taken care of during...

11/7/2024 8:02am Iceman, Curious to know if the fork you tested had a firmer compression tune to compensate for the lack of progression in the coil. One thing to consider for those who already have the 38air is you may need a retune to get HSC where it should be. I'm holding out for reviews on the new Smashpot https://vorsprungsuspension.com/collections/mountain-bike-suspension-sm… You can run a progressive spring in long travel and it has an HBC.

10/30/2024 2:42am Some real strange testing protocols, the main one being testing Hayes with semi-metallic, Shimano with resin and the rest with metallic. You'd think you'd go through all that trouble of using Brake-Ace to draw measurable comparisons you'd at the least run the same ballpark compound (Hayes even includes metallic pads in the box, Shimano metallic pads are easily had). Ideally you'd have just gotten a pair Galfer/Sinter/MTX pads for all brakes where possible. Not sure how the Hayes brakes gets a 7 for bleed procedure. It has literally the same bleed procedure as SRAM (to the point where I use...

10/20/2024 1:20am One of the biggest complaints of the RS-1 was how fiddly the wheel install was… There are lots of trade offs to manage with either design, some are 100% not performance based but important regardless.

10/20/2024 1:18am As someone who has some home burnishing equipment at his house (started a couple years ago), it's been pretty nice to have and there seems to be some benefit. However, it does seem that the fork performance tends to "degrade" quicker in between services. I find myself needing to really adhere to the service intervals. Fun fact about my experience with fork burnishing, I burnished my wife's 34, left the setup the exact same and the first ride we went on with it she complained with how more "squishy" her fork felt, had to go up in pressure and and...

10/20/2024 1:17am Slightly off topic, but what I don't understand is why we continue to go the route of press fit CSUs. There has to be a better solution. Also, plenty of people (myself included) used to say "it just creaks, at least it won't fail" which I now do not belive to be true. I've seen CSUs go from creaking to the steerer coming out of the crown (Fox). Some ideas... 1) Explore the use of an adhesive: Whether something like Lord's adhesive, which is strong enough to bond critical chassis components together in snowmobiles and cars or something else, this...

10/20/2024 1:14am Yes there is a trend towards more damping, as previous generations were terrible (fox in particular) and people have finally realized higher damping is necessary for grip and stability (thanks Ohlins and Bruni). If you look at Rochshox and Fox, compared to their boutique competitors, Ohlins, EXT, Push, Avalanche tunes, Vorpsrung etc etc, the consistent thing is they all offer more damping. Which is why we've seen Fox and Rockshox slowly add more effective damping in each model year. As for the quality of the products, I think they're pretty darn solid all things considered. But I always tell people...

10/20/2024 1:11am Everyone bitching about stiff wheels putting 20psi or 120 psi into the tires? I do believe that industry overall made amazing progress on making fork stiffer and passing down 35/36 size to trail bikes. The wortst thing is typically have noodle front end riding downhill and not able properly control it

10/20/2024 1:10am I think there is a lot of room for bikes to improve in the stiffness and compliance space from what I see from the racing world, but I personally don't have a good sense of it. It would be really interesting to try more and learn how much of a difference it makes. Generally, it will be very hard for people to really understand the impact of stiffness and compliance without having a bike (like the Commencal) where you can adjust seat stay bridges and things, as you will always be comparing two different frames. I also think the 'symptoms'...
