I’m xenophobic for not wanting shitty knock off brakes made in a sweatshop? Ight cool lol.

What patent did Lewis violate that was held by Trickstuff? I'm in no way disputing they look identical and similar, but that doesn't constitute a patent violation. Some functional aspect of the brake would've needed to be duplicated that was patented by Trickstuff, there are only so many things unique they are doing (maybe the clamp or lever pivot?). If anything the Lewis design is slightly more innovative because it allows you to rotate the cam in the lever to adjust lever progression, something the Trickstuff brakes lack (although I'd find hysterical if they duplicated). "Something looks like something" isn't...

China definitely doesn't care, but we can decide if we want to buy them.

First, it's not "xenophobic" to try to avoid buying MIC goods if the issue is philosophical and political. China is our enemy, Xi is an authoritarian communist who commits genocide. It was a horrible mistake to partner with China and offshore our manufacturing to them in the first place. Second, Taiwan and China are not the same country despite what Xi thinks. There's a MASSIVE difference between the two and if you won't buy Taiwanese goods then that may have an underlying xenophobic reason. Last, Lewis is a direct rip off of another company's IP. Not everyone is ok with...

I don't think it's xenophobia as much as it is that they appear to be a straight rip-off off of Trickstuff. Will be interesting to see if DT Swiss feels the same way (and does something about it).

Good insight! Recon you’ll be qualifying in the top 20?

Reading the riders' statement, I think its important to parse it into two parts. 1) Safety: The riders should have a major say in course safety, features and conditions. This is a totally reasonable thing to aim at being there is a direct connection between the organizers, the riders and course building. If they simply took a stand over this alone, I think they'd have a lot of success getting their way. 2) Pay: The idea that the riders "deserve" something because they are putting their lives on the line unfortunately doesn't hold much water elsewhere in life. I can...

Same here, but not everyone can be Neko Mullaly. I have met many pros as well I have even dug at rampage. I agree with what your saying but I also don’t. Some people are Jared Graves and some people are Neko Mullaly. Either way these guys should have rode.

Yeah, you bring up a good point. Outside of this kerfuffle, Crankworks slope events literally get no attention. Easy proof? Look back at all the event coverage on VitalMTB (yes, I looked). Its not that the mods don't post them, its that nobody cares. Literally, I see next to no comments, no likes, no...nothing. Those coming out of the woodwork here, where are you otherwise? Why are there zero forum posts about the riders, their gear, the tricks etc? Again, I'm not trying to take anything away from the riders, I'm just saying this is a completely non-relatable part of...

I agree with this. Feel like the slopestyle circuit really doesn't pull the weight it used to anymore. Back in the day it was a huge deal when Crankworx came around. Now a days it's just another random event. Throw in the fact that there isn't much personality displayed in these events anymore and you have to wonder, wheres the investment in throwing a bunch of money at these athletes.

I appreciate the riders being will to stand up for what they believe in. The big question I see here is simply "what is a slopestyle rider worth on the competitive stage?" Frankly, I don't know the answer to that question. To add, I scratch my head a little bit to those saying "Red Bull makes a lot off these events". How? I honestly haven't done a deep dive, but I also don't a huge moneymaker for Red Bull on a generic slope event. Rampage is the exception, not the rule. Crankworks Whistler the other exception. From my perspective, the...

Man good for them I guess!?? after waiting and traveling for hours to watch joyride last year I don’t really feel any sympathy. The same group of pros made 20,000 people sit around for four hours so they could perform 1 run. Then I watch these kids at the hotel the next week and in the village just getting paid to party lounge around and bitch at the hotel staff to get their bikes out and clean there rooms. I get you want more we all do. It just seems tough to get on their side. After being made to...

Saw a few posts mentioning ticket prices and a gate to watch the event. Not sure what it's like in NZ but Whistler Crankworx has always been free to spectate, it's streamed for free. I've heard before that most of these Red Bull events don't really make any money straight up from these events, but that they're all viewed as marketing. While I agree that riders should be properly compensated, I feel like it's up to the riders to market themselves better to help themselves make their living. They should be leveraging the fact they are in the biggest contests...

Without the athletes you do not have a show to put on... So ya, they should be paid a base amount to compete, that goes for all professional disciplines where a gate fee is charged to watch the event.

Weather they get what they want or not is not something that I will loose sleep over, but good on them for sticking together to prove a point.

For the same design and same loading, stress is the same for the two materials assuming no deflection. Modulus of elasticity is the same for all intents and purposes so when you consider deflection as well it’s still pretty much the same. S-N curve is the quick and easy way to visualize fatigue. For the same stress, 7075 can handle significantly more cycles. This graph is something I found really quick so no idea how accurate it is, but conveys the point. Traced lines for stress that would cause failure in 10^4 cycles in 6061. Would require about 10^5.6 cycles...
