The BB/Lower shock mount area remind me of a Scor for some reason.

A Santa Cruz with DVO suspension and e13 wheels? Not saying its impossible, they could be trying to throw us off the scent, but seems unlikely.

Aggressor is a trail tread pattern, not a gravity tire - it is closer to a Specialized Purgatory. It is reasonable compromise if you want to roll fast & loose in the rear, but it is by no means a "better wearing" DHR alternative.

Riding in SoCal like a few others and I’ve been liking the wear of the conti kryptotal. My only issue with it has been it feeling a bit more squared off than other tires. Not sure if anyone else has felt like this but I feel like leaning into corners it breaks traction when leaned over just a bit earlier than a dhr. But still for the wear life it’s my tire of choice in an enduro casing.

I got some Conti DH tires due to a lot of recommendations. Great grip but not a fan of the feel of sidewall support. Seems very sensitive to PSI, and can't get that 'goldielocks' feeling. Either to stiff or squirmy, but never a good balance.

I like the Maxxis DH casing when it's fresh, but I find that it gets pretty soft and squirmy in the latter half of the tire's life. I end up bumping my pressure up a few psi towards the end of the tires lifespan. I find the contis are a little more wooden to start, but they don't get as soft later in their life.

Yeah I second this. 10-20 days of proper enduro bike terrain riding is what I get out of a maxxterra DHR II (if I don’t rip a hole in it first). Currently on a Kryptol that’s close to double that and it’s still going strong. I find the Continental DH casing noticeably stiffer and more of a slog to pedal though despite it having a lower claimed weight

This seems like a strong attempt to rationalize an e-bike for an excuse to use an e-bike. You could just as easily tailor your effort or course on a standard bike to hit values that were the same. And as someone pointed out, highly variable mountain bike trails probably aren’t where you should be doing your low intensity/high volume work anyway. The real justification for an e-bike would be recovery days. Days you should be keeping effort very low but you still want to get outside and on trail a bit. An e-bike would let you ride actual trails on...

Good read. I ride for fun now, all rides lead to the pub so regardless I'm having 5 schooners after the ride, any fitness aspects are moot. If I ride my "meat powered" hardtail there is a sense of acheivment, my legs are sore, my ass is sore. The beers are delicious If I ride my 170mm eeb, my upper body muscles are sore, my ass is sore, the beers are still delicious You just choose the right tool for the job that day. If I have nothing on all day I'll ride the hardtail at a leisurely pace and...

I think just from the people I know that ride an ebike the majority of the time, when they get back on a regular bike they say that its like riding on flat tires. Or riding through sand. And they forgot how much more effort it takes on a regular bike. Not sure how that equates to fitness but it seems to have an effect on strength. No doubt its still gotta keep you stronger and more fit than just sitting on the couch though. I think Its like what you were saying about how it depends on the way...

A lot of words for some flawed study. Optimal zone 2 is between 60% and 70%. How much of your ebike time was below 60%? Does your HR not have an upper and lower alarm setting? Were you just riding be "feel" then looking at the data after? Could you not have backed off or clicked into an easier gear in the spots where you were well above Zone 2? Mtb on varied terrain is just crappy for steady state zone 2 and this is well know. Flat road is going to going to be better as it's much easier...

The things YT and Canyon are doing are exactly what the rest of the industry is doing, just without the "middle man" of a local bike shop. They are cutting costs on the production side, making a cheap bike that looks high end and can be marketed as such, but the main goal of which is to achieve a high profit margin at a price point that is hard to refuse for the average customer. If anything, I think they offer some of the lowest value on the market: their prices may be enticing — borderline disruptive — but when...

Ah man, the V1 proto looks so much better then the new refined (probably production) bike. I'm actually a lttle sad, that this thing will never hit the market.

Anther great review! I really like the roll compliance explanation. Never fully understood that concept till now. I can see how valuable that could be when tuned to work with the kinematic and suspension tune.

If I had to double tap my brakes every time I pulled them, I’d throw them straight in the trash. That’s not acceptable brake operation.

Low hydraulic leverage combined with short levers = lower power. Attached is a chart that I put together calculating hydraulic leverage based on MC piston and caliper piston diameters. There are some obvious components missing from this, notably mechanical leverage that is a result of the cam geometry and lever length. But it overall follows what I have felt with the brakes that I have tried. Personally, its been a long time since I've felt that Saints were top in the class, with the issues of Shimano's needing lever bleeds pretty regularly and the weird feel of the servo wave...

+ 1 on the mavens to be the one to rule them all. My set has been flawless and hasnt been touched and i dont even have to worry about aftermarket pads or different rotors as the whole package is pretty much perfect to me. When i first got my new bike with mavens on i wasnt pleased at all. I have been on the dominion bandwagon for a long time. After ridding the mavens for a while now i must say i got used to them. I put the contact point almost all the way in wich made it...
