For a long time the planes that people were jumping out of were made of fabric, too.

Don’t think I’ve seen this here yet, but looks like Dunlop is making some MTB tires. IMG 0028

It's crazy how much that tread pattern reminds me of a Kenda Nevegal.

I had the same thought, I had to triple check it wasn’t just a rebranded Nevegal.

As a (lapsed) F1 fan, the name of this tyre gave me a chuckle.  Old mate turns up everywhere!

Wow, there really seems to be a resurgence in auto industry crossover product development lately...for reasons I can't really understand, given the stagnation in the bike industry.🤨 Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing someone drive up to the trailhead with a car equipped with Dunlop tires, Bilstein shocks, and Brembo brakes, with a bike on the rack with a matching setup. Maybe we can get Recaro to start making saddles, and Momo to start making bars and grips to keep the party rolling.

I think all it might take is for a product manager to go to a bike shop for whatever reason and spot the wall of tyres for $100+ a pop...

Wait, what am I missing? How does MB53R relate to F1?

While I realise it's actually a 5, at first glance it looked like "MBS3" (and I didn't even see the R until you pointed it out!)

That's Momo Design, not Momo. Same as Porsche and Porsche. Design. Technically two separate companies doing separate things.

Some big automotive companies probably noticed the bike-biz-boom around 2021, some people saw $$$, then corporate hierarchies and decision-making kicked in, in glacial speeds, and now that the first ripe products trickle in, there is a bike-biz-slump. And makes it look like there was bad timing or wrong intel.

But that is just my uninformed guesstimate.

I don't pay much attention to automotive stuff, so had only made a superficial acknowledgement of the Momo branding and hadn't realised the distinction between the two. Thanks for clarifying.

I have heard from a LBS that Norco should have a new affordable simple Horst link DH option like around 6k CAD for a complete DH bike with Rockshox Select suspension for this spring-summer.

Last week Berd announced that they'd broken the record for the lightest XC production wheel from a major manufacturer, with their HAWK30 Gold weighing in at 1022 grams for the set (without tape and valves). Now NOBL has raised (or is that lowered?) the bar again, with today's launch of their all-new Ethos series. These new wheels also use Berd spokes up to and including the enduro wheels, with the super-light Ethos SL180 set weighing in at 933 grams (both the Berd and the NOBL wheels feature 30mm internal width carbon rims). Today's announcement from NOBL: https://www.vitalmtb.com/news/press-release/ultralight-xc-dh-nobl-introduces-all-new-ethos-wheel-series.

I had mine laced w/ standard (j-bend) hubs because I was worried about...something? Next set I get I'll go w/ hook-flange hubs.

I'm wondering if Berd is going to make their new hook flange hubs available aftermarket.

I like that NOBL is using them, anyone know if theirs have "Equal Spoke Length" as a feature? Since NOBL isn't saying anything about it, I'm guessing not.

I went with Onyx hook flange, heavy, but amazing. I’m absolutely sold on them, genuinely feel faster and the silence is beautiful.

Bike park rental fleet purchasing managers are licking their lips right now.

All jokes aside, it's good to see Norco filling out their Range (pun intended). They've got everything from XC halo builds to entry hardtails to this new park bike, while still seeming a bit "core" with Brage and the DH team. It's refreshing compared to the appeal to Bentonville and Marin County dentists that Specialized is leaning into.

The Nobl hook flange hubs look to be rebranded Erase Hubs.  Based on this Geometry chart, the flanges don't appear to be the same on both sides.  https://www.erasecomponents.com/geometrychart

In the interview with Brage when the Norco deal was first announced, he said something about riding a prototype that should be released sometime in summer. Obviously it makes sense that it would be some kind of freeride/dh bike.

Bilstein following through with mtb stuff would be awesome. Curious how it would slot in price wise. They have gotten quite a bit more serious when it comes to high end off-road suspension with the 8112 stuff and it’s still fairly competitively priced compared to king or fox. The 5100 stuff is still the benchmark for the best bang for your buck mono-tube shock on the market. I hope they go that route as opposed to trying to be in the tier of push or ext.

I'll be leery of billstein stuff until I get a chance to try it.  They are known for pretty digressive damping in automotive applications, which is good for performance cars.  Their 8112 and 5100 stuff (I have used both on personal vehicles) still has a very digressive damping curve, and honestly is not great for off road applications compared to a more linear damping setup and/or bypass architectures like king uses (application specific).

We've seen the same thing from ohlins and ext in their first couple of revisions after transitioning from automotive to mtb applications.  I suspect it will be a bit until the billstein stuff is dialed.  That being said, they do offer great performance at excellent prices in the passenger car market and their off road stuff is slowly improving but is indeed great value.

The new Berd Hawk30 Gold is also a rebranded (or maybe licensed?) Erase hub, and uses equal “spoke” lengths.

Now that I look at it, there’s a different rim depth f/r on the trail rims, so they are probably using a standard Erase hub body.
