Can anyone with more info translate this news? Who is Chaos and do we think they’ll do a good job for Rocky as a brand? Vultures or not?

I also assume this means Rocky headquarters will stay in the east.

Any impact for you buddy? I heard Montreal is nice this time of year.

Is painting of warranty parts going to be handled in-house still or do you think there's going to be a shift to the industry standard of just ordering a whole bunch of pre-painted parts? It'd be too bad if that program went away but it certainly was a bit odd compared to most. It did result in some annoyed customers (why does it take so long??) but also some very stoked customers (you mean they'll let me pick any colour out of the catalogue for my new frame??)

I'm still part of the Rocky Mountain team, so no immediate impact for me, for now. Thanks for asking!

Still a lot of unknowns right now, which is normal considering the whole restructuring and change of ownership. I'll learn more next week and in the following ones.

For warranty parts, my understanding is that it'll be a shift towards a more industry standard process of having prepainted parts in stock. Like you said, it had it's pros and cons.

A(n empty) Rocky Mountain page has recently turned up on Bikes Online Australia's website.  Another brand seemingly leaving the Pushy's stable?

These look kinda Mega

So they sold off the moulds for the Nukeproof bikes before selling on the brand and IP?

as I mentioned earlier in the thread you can just buy them direct from Carbonda/Flybike so I'm assuming if individuals can then the lid's blown open on anybody picking them up to slap labels on em'.

I think everything that wasn't covered in the 10 million pound purchase of brand and IP went directly into the bin or auction house. I wouldn't be surprised if the moulds were surrendered to the factory to pay off debts or just abandoned.

id say nukeproof probably didnt even own the moulds, the factory owned them and nukeproof owned the sales rights/IP.

Very common to see this kinda thing happen when a product gets to the end of line, the factory can continue to make them.

I ordered something from them a couple of weeks ago, and tracking says it’s nearby. No idea what’s happening with them, but they may be sorting out the tariffs. Definitely seems like something that would put them under.

To close the loop on this one, my STFU order arrived today. No tariff or customs fees, which is nice.

Glad to hear it! Cool product and would have been a bummer if it didn't work out. Still want to try out STFU against all the other pedal kickback/chain slap devices I'm trying. One of those situations where if the $40 option could get you 80% of the benefit of the $400 option, that would be pretty sweet for most riders.

There are 3d print files floating around for STFU style guide. Less than a dollar of TPU filament gets probably 90% of what $400 gets you on trail.

Hey I'm back (with Rocky). I might post a bit less here as I navigate current state of the bike industry; I've got a mountain of work to get through after being away from it all for 5 months. Thanks for the well wishes.

Unfortunately, 5 days is like a lifetime under this administration. I'm sure you all saw it, but the administration rolled back the tariffs to a far more "reasonable" 30% while Beijing cut tariffs on the US to 10%. More trade negotiations planned. The dog keeps barking, and it keeps on spooking everyone, but the bite continues to be softer than the bark.

***I'm not advocating for barks and bites, fwiw***

This sure does make planning difficult, that much is for certain.

yeah, that's exactly why i mentioned how old the vids were. as if stopping orders then re-starting orders 5 days later is any kind of way to do business for these (and any) brand.

Hope you have Brines’ Rali bike chain mag in the queue. Have it on two bikes and it works wonderfully

Still not buying any Bri*ish car ever.

I worked in the auto industry years ago for a short while, and the consensus I came to (also shared by many famous Youtubers) is that the only thing British cars are good for is paying mechanics.

Unfortunate for borealis, it seems most companies are ditching fat bikes or at least pausing for a short time. It's certainly a product that has a flow to it, fat bikes don't age the same way and don't have the tech push other bikes do so people tend to keep them longer and sell in smaller numbers. They usually only die because of winter corrosion. They also kind of topped out geo wise with the current RM blizzard and the Krutch Tauntaun.

I think fat bikes had a resurgence the last couple years as people who got into riding over COVID realized their season didn't have to end, and that rush has subsided. They also hit a geo point that wasn't "commuter bike with big tires" and we're actually capable of riding steep-ish summer trails without feeling like you were going to die so a lot of people picked up a new model. Love my two year old Blizzard but I also can't see me replacing it anytime soon as it just doesn't see the abuse the rest get.

That's unfortunate - they make good stuff. They hit the trifecta - small company + niche market + heavily reliant on Chinese manufacturing.

No doubt the trifecta for them unfortunately - on top of the fact that their niche of a niche market was generally even more seasonal and regional than the general bike industry.

I owned a Crestone a couple years ago while I was still in Colorado - I chose it because it was the best bang for the buck given my minimal expected fat bike use. I'd been watching them for many years prior though, and I did notice that once a model was launched, it was never revised or changed outside of paint colors. I wonder if the lack of updates for very long in the tooth product (old geo, no features like UDH, etc) contributed to lack of competitiveness in the market, on top of the fact that the high end fat bike market is an incredibly small slice of the bike industry pie.

Super bummed to see this regardless - I sat down with the owner to discuss the business back in the first Trump term when the 25% Chinese tariffs hit (as a part of a college project). It's terrible seeing all of these Colorado bike companies disappear.

Quickpro seems to have access to the Giga/Dissent moulds too https://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/china-cycle-2025-gallery-1/quickpro-gravity (scroll right)

My Giga was a great enduro bike and probably the best value for money bike I've ever owned (got in at the first frame-only price of $2.6k)

...Or they aren't going out of business? Borealis just posted this on Facebook that directly contradicts the other article.
