They just did an overview of Kolb's bike on the livestream and I noticed what looked like weight plates zip tied to to the bottom of his BB shell, has anyone else noticed that before?

I can't remember which bike, but I'm sure there was talk of one bike at Hardline that has a cavity around the BB specifically for weights.

I'm trying to buy the Vivid Ultimate Air for a year now, always on backorder. Contacted RockShox and all I got was apologies. What a gong show. Launching a new product but then you can't actuallyu buy it. Hopefully this goes better.

I added up the retail price of all the major parts on my most recent bike purchase and it costed the frame within a rounding error of $0.  Sure there are more middlemen, but are they really accepting lower margins in the retail channel?

Highly unlikely that margins are worse through retail. They probably need to prioritize OEM likely due to contract requirements or because they don't want to lose on volume.

There's no way they have lower margin at retail though.

It appears every now and then, typically at rough and long tracks like Fort William, atwill was running them this year, orange even produced dh frame with dedicated mounts for weight plates under bb.

Looks like it might be the Galfer prototype caliper we saw a little while back?

Yeah, I was referring to Kolb's bike specifically, afaik he's never used them before.

The other site is reporting that Neko is experimenting with a steel front triangle again. The last interview I saw with him about the Cotic made one, he laughingly said, "ya that frame was comfortable, thats for sure" and in the context I think he was saying it was too flexy. This new one has different tubing sizes and lugs. Did he find a way to stiffen up steel, did he also break those epoxy frames and is sick of breaking/cracking triangles, or something else entirely?

Maybe a cost-savings?photo

No point in experimenting in frames at this point if the goal is cost savings.  Plus with the non adjustable headset I don’t think these frames are meant for the public.  Rather I think neko wants to make the best steel frame he can.  And if it benefits himself, or asa, or angel then it’s a big win.  If not he learned something which I think is as important to him as results.

In a podcast it almost sounded like Neko just couldn't get the idea of an improved steel frame out of his head so he made the changes he wanted (stiffer and lighter) for Version 2 of the steel front triangle.

Does a coil need less compression damping in the first 10% of its travel? As someone who's a big fan of higher LSC on coils this sounds... terrible.

On a different note: there is wind there's some new wagon wheeled Ibises (Ibi?) on the way.

Do these things, vibroacoustic three chamber air springs, make any sense for mountain biking? Active suspension and geometry change for all types of terrain!? And does anyone besides Bmc working on a fully automated mechanical/air dropper post solution?image-20240610090129-1

I've seen these scuba diving weights added to the Atherton frames.  I've been running them on some frames that feel too light.  When adding the weight it feels a bit more planted and breaks away the suspension a little bit easier when unweighted.

You're right. I ended up DMing one of their sponsored riders and they confirmed it's a new one on the way. About time too.

Those buttons on Bruni’s bike are from Dakar Rally bikes. They use them for rollchart controls and other tasks either hardwired or BT in some cases. Dakar bikes are a nightmare of complexity with all the Nav required

Not sure if this has been posted yet... next gen AXS Reverb?

Looks cosmetically similar to the leaked wireless Fox Transfer.

Hopefully less complex means a smaller price tag.  I’d happily go remote to not have to deal with internal routing.  But at current prices I can just pay my lbs to deal with it for me and still come out way ahead.  😂

I'm hoping Bike Yoke's version breaks cover soon...

One thing that's nice about that SRAM seatpost patent is that it gives you a traditional two-bolt head.

I really like the current AXS post head setup.  When I service my AXS seatposts, I know that when I put the saddle back on, they will be at exactly the same angle that they were at before I removed the saddle.

I'm a bit late to the party, but it looks like a Sherpa Olympus : https://sherpabicycles.com/olympus/
And as far as i know, Sherpa only rebrands frames from Asia manufacturers...

I've been checking, they are listed at Universal but not available yet, Exo+ and up. Nothing on the Maxxis site yet and no luck hunting for clues of a Short Roller 3. Obligatory this belongs in the tire specific thread...
