Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew

pit bits 1 from lenzerheide up. nothing too crazy today, but tomorrow will show something that should stir plenty of comments.

I don't think this is a tech rumour but I do think everyone will agree with my sentiment:
I love seeing the perfectly organized toolboxes, and would love a mega-compilation of them...

Well, it took over a year longer than i figured it would pop up, but its a beauty....
Well well well, the steering stabilizer thing is happening again at the CLLCTV (apparently Mark Wallace ran this last year in Fort William and nobody noticed...). This is now on Troy Brosnan's bike, he says that Lenzerheide is not exactly the kind of track where it helps the most, so it'll be curious to see if he elects to run it as the week goes on (you can read our test of the commercially available, integrated version HERE).
Is this the thing @sspomer mentioned?
So this is basically the KIS system isn’t it? So not a proper „damper“ like used in motorsport, just a spring thats pulling on the bars if I understand it correctly.
Correct, it’s a stabilizer of sorts, not a damper. It’s an external version of the K.I.S. (Keep it Stable”) system developed by Syntace.
yep!
we just experimented with a live pit bits. lawlor cruising around. we'll work out some kinks, make it a bit more formal and keep it going in leogang and if you're online at the time, can ask questions via youtube. our regular pit bits video w/ more deets will show up later today. boosh!
I'm looking at this picture and I have a feeling that the new Boxxer will have a 20mm axle after all

This is such a bad idea. The point of wheel flop is that it adds stability. Rake, offset, and HTA allow a bike to "ghost ride" and this stupid system counteracts that.
Obviously it works for some people, otherwise it wouldn’t exist. Although most that I‘ve heard from people is rather negative. I‘m interested in seeing if Troy actually keeps it, or if some other guys do the same.
This is such nonsense. You can do literally everything this system would ever achieve through the means of proper steering geometry. And to add more stability through rock gardens and such you'd want a damper, not a spring. You'd want to make sure that steering input is slowed down, not make it harder to turn the bars. A spring will do literally nothing for you while getting bounced around in a rock garden - to even have any effect it would need to be so stiff that turning the bars at any time would require the equivalent effort of doing a push-up.
A lot of things that have little to no purpose exist. How well they sell is a question of marketing. Not saying the KIS system fits in here, just saying 'if it exists, it works' is far from a always true conclusion.
Anywho... FR1500 wheels. 240 hubs, J bend (32) spokes, FR541 rims? Any other options?
So true. This is the bicycle industry after all.
Those wheels are far too practical. 🤔

I love that we as a species are willing to shout our opinions to the world, in an effort to be correct above all others. Why is it that we feel the need to pull others down when we have little to no experience with, or understanding of things.
Listen, I'm not here to tell you that this system works or not, but I'm also real hesitant to tell those that have used it that either they are, or their experiences are stupid. Does it work, how the hell do I know? How the hell do any of us know if we havent tried it.
Looks terrible strapped to the top tube, but maybe whoever is using it, finds a benefit to the system........
Its not for me, (I dont think, hell maybe it is) its prolly not for others, but this is a thread for innovation, so lets build one another up rather than trying to drag one another down. What do ya think?
If my vest had sliding bushings, a dual-positive air chamber, and a 44mm offset just to name a few, I'd be more than willing to sew some sleeves onto them.
Patience my friend, patience
It’s ok to think a steering thing is cool or silly without being a dick or getting philosophical about it lol.
if you missed it, here's pit bits video from lawlor (non live) and just got new pit bit photos in of pivot proto. i'm building the full gallery, but here they are for you hardcore nerds!
Is that an RaceFace crank badged as Saint
This won't stop 'ghost riding' but alter the frequency that the bike wobbles at if you were to let it ghostie along the ground, or offset the speed that it can stay upright. By using springs it will be very position sensitive as opposed to speed sensitive, and since the bars aren't usually turned very far its probably quite subtle. I'm not sure either way if its a good idea or not, but from what I've seen Canyon has been one of the more scientific teams and have some smart guys on board. They might find out its no good but you won't know unless you try!
Looks very much like it. And a wolf tooth chainring for the chain going to the rear. Probably on Sram's 3-bolt interface by the looks of things.
And wait, what, a DWLink6-esque layout without a rear axle pivot?? o.O Flex stays? That chunky?
Looks like they've made some reliability improvements on the 2025 Float X2.
