I agree with both of you. It's not that he sucks. On the contrary...he's within the top 20 usually. But this is the largest bike company in the world. So, they only have one objective: #1 and the rest are losers. Maybe they were trying to breed a #1 and it didn't pan out. Happens in the sports world. But maybe Jared will teach him the mental edge to dig into the pain locker. Doubtful though. You either got it or you don't.

It's kind of funny to watch Spesh continually buy the best then have them underperform. I take enjoyment in that in a sick perverse way. I'm always rooting for the lesser knowns to win.
I understand what you're saying about favoring privateers and riders on small teams, but man - it's tough to root against Graves. I hope he's got a positive impact on Keene as well. They're both really incredible athletes.

Curtis seems to be a good ambassador for Specialized. He's also a local to one of the larger markets out there (Socal) and has a ton of the top strava times in the area (where there is no shortage of fast riders). It's fun getting too see how fast he is both up and down the mountain. But I do imagine Spec wants to see him competing for podiums or else he'll get the boot or a reduced roll in their enduro racing program.

I remember in a interview on vital that Troy said he wasn't riding ohlins yet.wouldn't surprise me if troy Mitch and Jared all ride their stuff. Ohlins has a single crown and double crown fork coil and air shock but no top racers.
Ohlins don't sponsor people to use their kit, every one has to pay so I very much doubt you will ever seen any of the top 10 guys on ohlins kit because they would be missing out on quite a healthy cash sponsorship from one of the current big 2.

Seriously doubt Curtis minds, he knows he didn't perform well this year and Graves can only help him, especially if 2016 might be his last chance at Specialized.

Still don't understand if letting Beerten go was their choice, such a badass female rider for them.

I know I'm kind of a dick for saying this but I'm surprised the big S and RedBull has kept Keene. He's a badass for sure but being a badass without more banger results doesn't usually cut it in the hyper-competitive mountain bike world. Besides his Whistler performance he's been the rider with all the potential but not much to show for it...

Maybe Cam Cole? I know he said he was retired from world cup racing but I rememeber in a post retirement interveiw he said that he and rocky were trying to start a team but rocky said they coudlnt garentee a delievery date on the new Maiden frames last year.

It was posted here as well and it has been told (i think by the creator even!) that it's a photoshop. Look a few pages back.

That is what that version of the model was called "world cup". Have not heard of anyone in the b.c. area (before the snow) saying that they have seen any big name rocking one.

Keene is a phenomenal rider, but there are all lot of great riders in the EWS and usually a company like big S wouldn't pay for Keene's results unless it was a young, up and coming rider...
Keene is about as in bed with Specialized as you can be short of putting a ring on the finger of Sinyard's daughter....

He is bro bro with all the mtb product managers and has been for many years.
The American Dream is good guy to have on your team, he contributes way more than just race results.

Redbull on the other hand....

Man, people trying to bang on Keene's results is hilarious. He is absurdly fast and plus he is a HUGE guy in person. Know that sounds silly, but his presence at a race is obvious. He's infectious and there are tons of reasons to sponsor the guy. Feedback, his blistering schedule, talent, focus, determination, marketing knowledge, communication skill.

Tough to put into words, but I fully understand why he's there. Dude is a grinder.

No doubt Keene's fast, but if you compare EWS results from 2015 to 2014, it's pretty simple. Slower in races, bad luck etc, pretty sure he's not too happy with it either.
I've met Curtis once, spoke briefly with him at Winter Park. Really nice guy, down to earth.
I really hope having Graves on the team will result in a great season in 2016 for him, I'm sure he'll put in the effort.
Can't wait for next season's EWS in general.

I'm sure Curtis helps out with R&D and is great on product launches.

Would you want a guy on staff who can do all that and still be top 25 in the world?

You can't make someone stay. That's called slavery. And I hear that's bad.

Absolutely. He hasn't dominated as I'm sure he and I and his sponsors might have wished, but he has done quite a lot as an ambassador to the sport through both Spec and Red Bull. I, like you, have questioned his contributions to the sport recently. But I look forward to more adventure and more sport in the years to come. Brand New Fresh Respect. From a Spec hater.

It's not always just about results. Taking a cue from BMX: Barry Nobles. Barry has yet to win an AA pro main but he is one of the best promoters for his sponsors and he is a good guy.

Exactly. He's a great example of how to promote yourself and your brands in modern times. Not many people buying MB Action anymore...
