The TTX22m has now been around for 10 years, and during that time no major changes have been made to the core, twin-tube architecture of this iconic coil shock that made its MTB debut on Specialized bikes at the end of 2012. Metric and Trunnion versions were added a few years ago as the shocks became more widely available both for OEM and aftermarket fitting, and Öhlins also played around with the physical orientation of the piggyback cylinders to allow the shock to fit more frames, but throughout it all, the underlying architecture was left pretty much unchanged. Fully external routing: fine. Internal routing, guided: fine. Internal routing, unguided, with large entrance and exit ports: also generally fine. Internal routing, unguided, with small entrance and exit ports: not fine. Through the headset: fuck all the way off.

My thoughts too. Why don't all the pros come to this? It pays way better than the WC races do. I know there's a lot that goes into a WC race, but if a regional race like this can shell out $50K in prize money then it seems like UCI should be able to bump their numbers a bit.

I doubt it’s going to be that big of a change. My 21 is plush on top like he said and ramps up hard at the end of the travel. Problem is to deal with big hits you have to keep the air pressure up. Adding more damping and messing with the air spring again doesn’t seem like a game changer. I’m waiting for the buttercups breaking pics to start showing up personally.

I just completed the first ride on it. That was 20+ miles with about 1200’ of climbing and much more descending. I decided to use Automatic instead of Manual. Even with Automatic there is still some setup required but that’s easy to work through. On the trail, I could hear the system switching modes frequently and making adjustments. The noise didn’t bother me but the mode light was a bit distracting as I found myself looking at it with each mode change. There is the option to run it as Blackout and I’ll likely try that next so there’s minimal...
