Got the bike, glad I went XL, doesn't feel too big at all. Was a case of the numbers on paper not translating into what I thought they would on the trail. Total beast and manageable 
It is stupidly heavy, at 28kg! but once rolling you forget about it. The biggest surprise is the steep seat tube angle, that's awesome!

The Spire is Transition's newest, and biggest bike to date. Despite having less travel than the TR-11 (Transition's downhill bike), its wheelbase is longer. Numbers aside, Transition has billed this bike as more of an all-rounder and ready to party in the woods, as is the Bellingham brand's moniker. Topping off sealant with the little 2oz bottle (I saved a couple of the Stan’s bottles to use as a measuring cup) that has the perfect tip size to fill through a presta valve with the core removed, doesn’t seem quick and easy with this. Plus it’s a good time to check that the valve itself is clean and fully functional. Spending $50 to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Sounds like PON is figuring out the mtb market.

I found this strangely relatable for mountain bike content. More than anything it comes across like a genuine attempt to help less experienced riders make a few simple decisions and arrive at a better outcome for themselves. So it came across to me a lot like the 5-10 minute demonstrations I do to introduce students to new lab equipment, or to ask them to think about more familiar equipment in a new way. You state immaterial change yet Norco sells bikes with size specific chain stays that vary in length by that amount, 5mm per size for the Sight as an example. As the owner of a aggressive steel hardtail with sliding dropouts, I can tell you that yes 4-5mm makes a noticable difference in handling whether its jumping, manuals, flat turns, berms or even climbing. Jeff thanks for the reply. I should’ve said first half and we could talk where in travel we usually ride (98% time under 70% of travel sounds boring as fuck) eventually ending up on the idea that pressing the bike down into corners is as much about increasing pressure on the tires for traction as it is about shortening the wheelbase to increase the bikes agility. I’m the same, I’m loving the low and slack part for where I ride, but having tried a few longer hard tails I think that an average reach makes for a good balance between stability and playfulness.

I would definitely be interested to try one sized down and see if a shorter reach but still an extremely slack ht angle could possibly work better for me. But having tried a few hardcore hardtails in the past I haven’t been a huge fan of the longer slacker movement on hardtails. (Love a low bb though). I feel there is an increase to imbalance of front and rear traction, the front end becomes slow and steals some of that hardtail snappiness especially in flatter sections (our trails are mostly super steep or flat with little in between), and it...

I bought a RSD Middlechild and at almost 6’4” I went with the large and that bike has been awesome! Clipless pedals and go for a long grind, flats and go have some fun, it’s really a multi-tool on two wheels.
