Just wanted to throw this out there. But for X-games, we all got paid for showing up. For our rights to be on the broadcast. Got a cheque from the Walt Disney Corp. It was 1000 USD. This was in 2013. I just mentioned this is about the wild card riders or lower positioned riders who have either no sponsors or are flow (so free bikes/parts/gear but no contract) and maybe some dudes with TINY contracts and basically NO bargaining power/leverage to ask for a better contract. I think, to steer the convo better, lets really really really not compare slopestyle bicycle riding to the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, F1, literally anything that absolutely dwarfs our disciplines COMBINED in terms of money power. As a racer I want to race the opposite of that. I want a chairlift up then multiple gravity stages with very little pedalling. But referring back to the op I think part of the issue is the coverage isn't very good and the races are so long it would be hard to keep viewers engaged, be as boring as F1 to watch live.

9-10% net profit after all costs/expenses is not unheard of for sustainable businesses. 7.5 million is a pretty good profit. And it also means they are operating in the black. I recently saw an article talk about Rapha, and they have finished the last 7 years of business in the red. Demo bikes at bike parks is generally a marketing play with minimal profit but high yield on visibility return. Given the challenges many brands are seeing, expanding to a new market is a way to drive new revenue. Right now expanding into another challenged market is a questionable choice...

I think a major point that gets missed here is just how MANY sports there are to sponsor now. Back in the 90's BMX and Skateboarding were still fringe ( sadly not now ) and Motocross was hardcore fans only. Now we have Parkour, wingsuit flying, Freeriders in every sport, go karts, Buggy racing, Rallycross etc etc the list goes on. You can find a compeititve version of almost every hobby / sport going these days. The pot of money has grown but far outsripped by demands. Social media also enhances those sports that get $$.
