We saw Rachel Atherton at the Safeway nearest Laguna Seca and asked her if she wanted to come party with us. She said no. I got smoked in sport DH the next day.

Another old story: I was about 16 years old (in the 90s) and I used to go to the national races by train and then by bike (DH-ish kind of bike) climbing up mountains with my backpack filled with a tent, sleeping bag, and spare parts. The race promoter (Georges Edwards) was impressed by my grit and invited me to the VIP dinner, I got to eat with Nicolas Vouilloz, Giovana Bonnazzi, Taillefer, Jurgen Beneeke, Grancois Gachet and all the big names from this era.

Sometime in the early 2000's, I was supposed to ride at some event with Wade Simmons. I ended up missing the group ride but got to ride with Nicolas Vouilloz. Fast forward a few years I ran again into Wade Simmons in Moab with Jordie Lunn (RIP) and Darren Berrecloth, they were nice enough to invite me to the shooting of their Movie "Roam" and then invited me to some Mexican restaurant afterward. Fast forward a few more years, I was riding down a rock slab on Mt Seymour and I literally crashed my bike over .... Wade Simmons again...

No current plans to build for sale. MK5 is in the works. Take Mk3 and Mk4 and smash them together you get Mk5, I need to finalize some flat sheet metal design for the shock tunnel and get that off to Send Cut Send. When talking frame design for me the question is what are the design goals? I started making my own frames when what now is modern geo wasn't available so I was building slack n long when that wasn't a think for trail/enduro/am bikes. Now I could find pretty close to my preferred geo on a commercial...

I thought spesh bought the patent from the inventor and then made it exclusive to them, which while pretty lame on spesh and for the companies who were liscencing it from the original inventor, isn't illegal.

I was in Morzine years ago and shared a lift ride and rode an unmarked trail with Miranda Miller. She was very cool and super fast down a terrifying trail. I had a beer with Kelly McGarry after my drunken pal was yanking his curly hair - he was incredibly nice, good humoured, and seemed such a genuinely good person. I'm sure he is still missed by many.

I saw Loris Vergier a few years ago filming a promo for a trail bike in Roubion bike park, he kept complaining that "the bike feels like shit"

I raced EWS in Finale in 2017. Jesse Melamed broke his hand before the race. So I broke the same hand on the same special stage during the race. I guess we're spiritual brothers ever since.

Now then, that’s a very good idea! Genuinely looking forward to seeing those comparisons. It won’t be perfect, but will definitely offer valuable cross reference to your expectations that, without a dynamic static test rig for both together (or a dynamic CAD system to visualise theory) currently requires your intuition (which is excellent in my view btw 😊).

What I will do at some stage when i get time is put the original 180mm forks back on the bike and test that with the telemetry doing the Curb impact test....that will be a direct comparison between the stock bike and the modified bike....that should be interesting.

The following Pics show the Velocity traces of the two previous Pics....these show how fast the suspension needs to move to get over the Curb....and to the right it also shows accelerations in the X Y Z axis as measured by the IMU.... The first Pic velocity traces in the open mode show a peak of 3171mm/s for the fork and 1071 mm/s for the Shock The IMU shows a peak Max accelerations of 9.6G and below shows the max accelerations in X Y Z The next Pic shows velocity traces in the closed mode....the peak velocity for the fork...

The following Pics show the tests I made hitting the Curb with the Link shock in the open mode and the closed mode. The first Pic shows the suspension Travel traces with the Link shock in the open mode...same as the Earlier Trace Pic....but it just shows the impact of the front wheel into the Curb...at 20kph and it shows both suspensions reacting and moving...the labels show Peak travel for each. The next Pic shows the bike being ridden into the same Curb at 20kph....but with the Link shock in the closed mode....so its barely moving when the wheel hits...

Edit: Oh! And that's what this is... they just pulled it from the podcast and made it a separate video. I will also say that the B-Practice podcast after... maybe Snowshoe?? (might have been after US Open) has a great hour or so to start it off that would be fantastic for any aspiring racer or parent of an aspiring racer to listen to from Dak and the crew.

This kinda ties in with Gwin acquiring the rock. Im honestly surprised how well the youth are doing in this country despite how little of a national development program we have. I know its hard as our country is massive and getting jr. to a race clear on the other side of the country isnt feasible for most people. But it really shows what youth development does. Look at the current crop of fast french dudes that all came up through Vouilloz and co's direction.

Great stuff (as always) you guys are big time builders in USDH! Got my 14yo on a DH bike and he is loving it. Bike nerd Question(you say you read all the comments). I have AXS wireless on his (and my) enduro bikes because they are tough and take a hit. Why is there no axs or T-type on DH bikes, even in pro pits? I would think , especially the transmission tucked up and out of the way would be good? Is it just not tough enough for DH or is the short cage the barrier? I would think...

I've ridden Santa Cruz trails with Matt Hunter, followed by burnouts and donuts in his rental car. I threw up a little trying to stay on Ned Overends wheel on a climb. I rode a pump track with a 14yo Troy Brosnan. I damn near made Curtis Keen The American Dream throw up staying on my wheel up a climb, and was then smoked by him on the descent.
