It's becoming quite clear in the race for more power, with the gap narrowing between e-mtbs and e-motos, that legislation will happen and certain categories of bikes will not be able to be sold without insurance. The danger here is, that due to the difficulty of differentiating between class 2 and beyond e-mtbs and class 1, class 1 e-mtbs will be lumped in with the rest and all e-mtbs will require some sort of insurance or licensing. This is the fear that is pushing the Europeans (backed by Bosch) to apply power limits to electric bikes or face legal consequences...

We had Saurons descend on our local social trail spot over the last 2 years. They are kids, their parents are ok with their kids abusing areas as long as it's not their own ( the area is surrounded by residential neighborhoods). The kids on the Saurons tore up the space in moto ways, the neighbors complained to the police, and nothing happened. Then recently the land owner brought tractors out and destroyed all two wheel related fun bits. I feel bad for the BMX and MTB teens who built some fantastically sculpted jump areas. 6/11/2025 4:34pm In europe you can buy a shimano ebike motor system easily. It just doesn't make much sense as it would probably be easier to just buy a cheap complete bike and salvage it doe parts.

Make them illegal to sell or import, or some other avenue to shame them out of existence? Seems like they have created an impossible to regulate situation, unless they don't exist in the first place. Three wheelers used to be a scourge that killed or maimed their own riders - now they are not.

The thing is in Europe and especially the Alps/Dach-Region things like those on the trails en masse will quickly lead to local or county wide bans for all bicycles on trails...

6/3/2025 7:50am Yeah, their other bikes seem to have some kind of middle of the road thing in where you don't have ot remove the motor but fiddle with more screws/bolts and cables compared to a more quick system.

6/3/2025 12:41am Looks rather long and heavy. But maybe it's just the optics. I wish someone would make an Avinox bike with a removable battery. But maybe the system doesn't allow it (yet). I just wonder how low full power weight could go with that option... The frame design of the Crestline would allow a lower slide out tho.

5/28/2025 9:03am Yeah, I forgot about suspension setup in relation to the tires. Fuck, this is so tricky! I actually like a slower rebound I think. At least I'm most often close to the fox recommendation and don't open up rebound all the way as some people seem to prefer.

Especially with the radial casings. Then it needs to be made sure that the rubber compound of the tires is new and has been stored properly (cold and dark). I...
