4/11/2025 10:14am As somebody who's tested this variable back to back on the same chassis (not two totally different forks), the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Maybe we need to do a fork stiffness deep dive like the excellent frame compliance analysis Burney did. But in short, forks also have roll and wag. Everyone usually thinks of only wag and they test it with the wheel between the legs, but I'd argue this is only a valid indicator of stiffness during full braking on dry pavement. In this situation, the hex axle can offer a small benefit in reducing wag, but in...

4/9/2025 2:30pm +1 on the horse issue. They’re literally the single most destructive/disruptive user group I can think of (post holing and eroding everything they touch, shitting everywhere, easily scared, etc.) but they get minimal flack as far as I know because the user group is mainly rich old heads that have more influence over public land use in most places. I also think a lot of these issues would be alleviated if local govt/land managers would allow/invest in more mtb specific trails and infrastructure. You look at areas like Bentonville Arkansas, Knoxville, TN and lots of other southern/southeastern cities where mtb...

3/10/2025 10:25pm It's great that there's competition at the top of the safety charts. POC shells haven't fit my head shape whenever I've tried them on in the past, but Fox does. I'm sure the opposite applies to other people, so competition means more good options for people.

2/13/2025 11:54am Shout out big privilege, he's a good dude. Always up at mountain creek, just a normal dude that likes riding bikes (with a rap career). I love that it he brings representation for a minority in our sport.

2/10/2025 7:45pm Sinter Greens. Haven’t run TS’s but out of MTX, Red’s, Golds, both Hayes compounds and Galfer greens, the sinters are the best I’ve used. Run them on A4’s and Kaha’s with the new SE05 TRP rotors on one bike and Galfer Waves on another. Dead silent and more power regardless of how wet it is. Only have a few hundred...

1/22/2025 12:29pm Hey all! I did a whole heap of tyre testing last year at Bike Park Wales. The aim was to accurately measure which were quickest, based on multiple timed laps. I had always intended to make this video in case anyone finds it interesting or helpful, but only just got round to making it. Hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think, and whether any of this lines up with your experience. I was extremely surprised by the results... The tyres on test were: Continental Kryptotal 29x2.4 DH/Supersoft Maxxis Assegai 29x2.5 DH/MaxxGrip Schwalbe Magic Mary 29x2.4 DH/Ultra Soft...

1/21/2025 12:27pm First let me say this is an awesome and informative thread so keep it up because I want to learn more. Now, my inner 10 year old that I can't seem to control, who knows very little about trophy trucks other than they are the coolest thing on the planet, and desperately wants a Raptor because its the closest thing he'll ever get to one, wants you to know he spent his entire birthday money on this in 1989.

1/16/2025 1:15pm You are correct, you did say counterpart. In the example that you gave the reason why is correct for certain applications, but I can guarantee that it's not neat PEEK, i.e. unfilled virgin PEEK. Most likely its carbon or glass filled with ETFE or PTFE added as a lubricant, but I would bet that more often than not its PPS...

1/13/2025 12:45pm Careful there, PEEK, PAEK, and PEKK are not replacements for any alloy steel or SS. Compressive strength of any of the PEEK materials in the family is between 13-18KSI in a neat form, no glass or carbon fill and generally will not ever be over 25KSI without significant carbon fiber loading. PEEK is one of the most expensive thermoplastics, and...
Ryan Burney Liked a forum topic MTB Compliance Analysis: Danny Hart's Modified GT Fury Frame
1/6/2025 8:08am Danny Hart's GT Fury caught a lot of attention this past World Cup season as it had some notable structural frame modifications to increase compliance. Dale, Danny's mechanic, is a veteran frame engineer and had some great ideas on how to fine tune Danny's bike to work best for his style and to eke out the literal hundreths of a second needed to win races. If you haven't seen these mods, check out this quick section of Vital's PIT BITS video here. Let's dig into each modification. This will be extra fun because I was fortunate enough to be the...
