4/15/2026 9:09am Why not get a Madrone instead of a bunch derailleurs that require a lot of maintainance and not even working that well spending the same if not more for something much weaker, soft

4/13/2026 8:09am Yes, but... The molding artifacts and the mold release agents probably being very low on the pareto chat of reasons why a first run break-in is a thing. MTB tires rely less on molecular adhesion and much more so on deformation/indentation, road biking is an application where you do rely on molecular adhesion as a primary component of mechanical grip...

4/12/2026 12:35pm Venting in the tool to get rid of gas during the molding process. The Mohawk is a result of the tool flashing at the parting line, where the two half’s meet.

4/6/2026 12:17pm Sounds like you haven't pulled apart the lever and seen what it does? Might be worth your time to check it out if you haven't. If you advance the MC piston much further than where it comes from factory it closes the system off, Its a dead simple system that has little adjustment to decrease the dead stroke. A closes...

4/6/2026 11:45am You will never get dominions to have as little travel as what you can get out of T4V4's. The little screw is not how you change the bite point of the Dominions and TBH there isnt much you can do about it, the master cylinder piston is as close as you are going to get to the timing port as...

4/6/2026 10:39am Let me introduce you to my friend shimano... lol Dominions have kind of the worst of both worlds, lots of lever travel and a short ramp that goes from initial bite to rear tire lockup very quickly. Ride T4V4's and Dominions back-to-back in steep loose over loose conditions and you will appreciate the power and control that the hopes gift...

4/6/2026 9:28am Good spot. That is something that I am actually really interested in. Would be interested to see if they managed to smooth out the power band compared to the original Dominions. The lever looks longer with less hook, I would suspect that they made some improvements to reduce dead stroke allowing you to run levers closer to the bar.

4/1/2026 11:44pm No, definitely not just tuning via the base valve. But it is modified from stock for all the options being tested. The stock base valve setup on the Bomber CR/Fox Van is quite stiff and uses belleville washers. All three tuning options (Avalanche Racing, Fluid Focus, and Shockcraft) remove the belleville washers and convert the base valve to a more traditional shim stack. All three use different base valve tunes, and Avalanche uses a different needle for the bleed (LSC clicker) as well. Fluid Focus and Shockcraft both use a different main piston, while Avalanche uses the stock main piston...

3/31/2026 10:21pm That’s some good mathing Robot! I was there a total of 13 years across two separate stints of 5 and 8 years. It’s a long fucking time to do anything! My wife landed her dream job which required a relocation to Nashville. I’m enjoying some time as a stay at home dog dad and slowly figuring out what’s next!

3/30/2026 8:28pm Since ceramics have a porous nature that provides them with their high insulation values I think I am still in the right here, but that's splittin' hairs between our respective opines. That it is evident on the running face of the piston does look to be a helluvan oversight, that we can agree on. I will say the caliper bores did look a bit shiny, but without having seen a brand new unit dissected I can't make proper call but I suspect the shiny surfaces to be due to rubbing related surface erosion.

3/30/2026 8:28pm Im just being an annoying ME now but porous ceramics are a thing except they are sintered from larger diameter media, under much less heat and pressure, and make great filtration devices. Porous media has not only gas but at most times liquid permeability of which ceramic pistons that we are discussing do not. These are most likely manufactured via...

3/30/2026 1:03pm Worth pointing out that they are not "porous" but they have a poor surface finish which leads to them accumulating materials that are much softer than them in the surface. It is surprising that they didn't at least coat the sliding surface with an amorphous carbon coating to prevent this. Would have made a huge difference. Out of curiosity, did...

3/29/2026 7:30pm A rebuild will take care of that. Replace the bladder as well as the all the rest of the seals. If I remember correctly the kit plus the bladder was under $50 from DVO… it’s easy to do at home if you’ve worked on a rear shock before. Even if you haven’t it’s not that much work to do it.
