Upgrading to a different damper is a great upgrade to the Zeb R, and will effectively turn it into an Ultimate or Select+ level-fork, with the potential exception of Buttercups if you care about that. I have an unreleased 140/150mm bike in the shop that comes stock with a Fox 36 and Mavens type build kit with a completely new inline fox shock with the bike manufacturers logo on it and a HUGE air can. It's very strange to see an inline shock on a build like this so I'm interested in whats going on with it. Apparently next week we'll know. It kind of looks like an RP23 with a high volume air can but 1.5x the size

I met Cam whilst riding in the last 12 months and find it hard to believe all the negative takes on him, he was by far the most down to earth, open with information and genuinely interested pro i have ever met; to myself and the guys i was riding with.. which is a stark contrast to some of the other industry big dogs that i have met that have massive media presences but are way less accomplished

20 mm axle requires even thinner (and weaker) bearings if you want to keep a hub axle compared to a 15 mm axle hub.

Pretty much, DT and King are the only 2 hub brands I have total faith in. I worked at the king importer here when they acquired it, I wasn't super in to the brand at all, but after several years working on them and dealing with the company they would be one of the brands I regard highest out of anyone in the industry. DT 350s are pretty much what I will choose if the budget doesn't stretch to CK - they just work

I got so sick of breaking rear hubs I switched all my bikes to dt Swiss 350s and 240s. I assume they are as durable as Chris Kings but at a lower price point.

I should have been a bit more clear- I think the new stumpy that’s coming out is going to be fine if it has a yoke. The new shocks are tougher too- all brands. Older designs (bikes and shocks) are more fragile for sure. Monarchs were/are super fragile and had a high warranty rate. I think that is fairly well known. Keep complaining- some companies read this stuff!

I love the internet. I won't speak for David, but I do think its worth pointing out you've probably ridden stuff he's engineered (he's ex-SRAM/Rockshox, specifically a rear shock engineer). One thing I find really interesting as I get older is just how much harder it is to ascribe real correlation to an event, despite what may seem obvious. Turns out, there are often many variables to consider, and anecdotes by themselves don't hold as much water as we humans wish. I think it’s 2024, both frame and shock manufacturers have reeled in the yoke issues and learned from previous mistakes. Everyone above did a better job than I can explaining the advantages- shock location, leverage rate, appearance etc. My 2 mountain bikes both have yokes- not too concerned.

I don't know, but the worst steel bolts I've ever used on a bicycle have still been better than the best aluminum bolts.
