There's no shame in struggling with the pronunciation of Welsh place names. I lived there for a few years and regularly got laughed at for my attempts. The Welsh do make formidable scrabble players though.

If it's taped but not closed that's fair play, if people have a problem it should be with the race organizers not the riders.

Talk about the cringeworthy self-blindness of the pot calling the kettle: including World Champs, 7 of 8 WC DH races this season are in Europe. If you are from Europe, Mr. Palazarri, you have the unfair advantage of being able to drive to any of these venues to practice, while the rest of the world has to fly. Kolb & Coulanges won races at their *home mountains* last year. What is a week of extra practice on a mountain vs a lifetime? The only way to completely level the playing field is to ban all World Cup racers from riding...

If they don't want people practicing on the taped course, then they need to close it down or disallow it in the rulebook. Otherwise... these are professional athletes whose livelihoods depend on performance. They are going to seek every advantage they can, regardless of whether it's against the "spirit" of the sport or not. Same thing is happening at Big Mountain Enduro right now, with several professional teams already at Mt. Nebo this past weekend. The courses aren't taped yet, but everyone knows what the courses will be, so it's a pretty big advantage to get multiple extra days. Regardless...

The corporate entities towing the 'wall of positivity' company line whilst offloading their massive overstock at half price (insert this is fine meme). Interesting to hear so many say the key to growth is to stop gatekeeping (because it's our fault) and welcome new riders.......whilst a midrange bike is now $6k and riding kit is $200 shorts and $100 jerseys. The pandemic accelerated the crash but the downturn has been coming for a long time and is largley self inflicted by 'the industry' (nefarious amorphous conglomerate that it is /s )

Falcon Liked a reply to forum topic Scrubs are slower then squashing: My MTB hot take

Moto guy here. The scrub came about because James Stewart (or Rick Johnson, or Jojo Keller, depending on whom you ask,) determined that staying low was faster. Lower = less hang time = rear wheel on the ground sooner = more speed.) When the term "scrub" came out, it was roughly analogous to the Motocross Action magazine term "to scrub speed." In other words, to "wash off" some of the speed. MXA used it to describe getting on the brakes. Stewart used to go much faster than it would be necessary to clear an obstacle, then "scrub" off the speed...

What a total bummer. I suspect nothing is happening by accident, and the Kona employees are getting the classic vulture capital playbook. Like the employee wrote, "it’s being led by individuals who don’t seem to care about the damage they’re doing to the brands, communities, or people." Yup. This is a friendly reminder that Oliver Stone wrote "Wall Street" and the Gordon Gecko speech as an indictment of business practices in America, but instead it's regularly cited, year after year, as an inspiration to people working in finance.

Some companies realized the boom was a boom and didn't triple their staff, open boutique stores, and expand their lineup to infinity. They also aren't sponsoring many slopestyle riders.

I dunno, Josh was 14 seconds back on Dak on his race run and I'd expect him to be faster on an MX bike than a DH bike. Anyone else remember this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqBy1R7IMGE Fort Bill is pretty pedally by DH standards, with quite a few sections where you could open up an MX or Enduro motorbike. I'd also say DH bikes have gotten a fair bit quicker in the intervening years.

Not 5 brands, but 5-ish parent corporations who own all the major brands. They market them towards different consumers, but the bikes become more and more similar. Like cars.

People thought Zaugg had left the company, but what actually happened was designers at Scott hid him by integrating him with his desk in the hopes it would provide his office with a cleaner look.
