Triggering dichotomies are a never-ending source of amusement for us editorial staff 😉 hip packs with sunnies and full face anyone?

Jason going for the jugular here. Sorry but I'm gonna keep rocking the sunglasses with the FF so I can climb conveniently and than, when I reach the top I'll take a sip from my second bottle that's on my hip pack. Don't worry though Jason, if you have a flat, you can use my proper sized hand pump that's in the pack too.

I had Cane Creek's version of that, the Hellbender Neo, for bottom brackets on two bikes. Both completely seized after a ride or two. CC quickly abandoned those types of bearings. The SLT bearings look a lot like the Hellbender Neos in terms of the polymer structure so I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to them. EDIT: Wow, even the "food industry" influence is the same. Not sure I'd put down money for those after my experience with the Hellbender Neos.

Hybrid ceramic bearing (balls are ceramic and inner/outer races are steel) will lead to premature wear on the steel races. Full ceramic bearing (both balls and races) are very brittle and don't take impacts very well so they can shatter in bicycle application (hubs, pivot or even pulley wheels). Ceramic also need very high rpm with low drag seal or no seal at all to make more sense than regular full steel bearing. Good tolerances and appropriate choice of sealing type would make more difference in bicycle application than anything else. I have thought about a bearing binning service where...

I thought the same thing. Wonder if Milway is based around there or something? Re Whitely at Mondraker - could he be there to try and steady the ship after Dakotah’s injury? Wouldn’t be surprised to see an Ollie Davis style super sub added to the team.

Sunglasses with a full face are going to continue to be the way. Goggles require more management, and I don't need that hassle. We're riding up the hill in our fill faces, and goggles don't like that. Doesn't really matter what people think is cool or not, I'm going to do it my way regardless.

Translation: "MTB sunglasses are out" = "I never pedal more than 5mins at a time." Enough with the Endur-bro machismo on this Vital. The only scenario where goggles can stay fog free long enough to actually ride in them is while shuttling or riding lifts. If that is 100% of your riding, swell, but keep this dogmatic posturing to yourselves.

Silver Star is HC level points and top 5 go to a World Cup. The other races are lesser points. OG is Class 3 and Canadian Open is Class 1 UCI points

Jenson's site quoted $204 + $140 insurance for $9k bike shipped coast to coast. Since you can take a bike box on the plane for $25-$30 each way with American or United, Jenson's service doesn't make much sense for travel, particularly since round trip you're looking at $688 vs $50-$60. For selling & shipping a bike it looks like a much better proposition: I got a rate of $335 from Pirateship for UPS shipping coast to coast, and on UPS site it was $575, both sans insurance. Bikeflights quote was $278 shipping + $140 insurance, so yes, Jenson did get...

Heartbreaking news on GT. My son's first bike hookup and "support" was from GT. They are such a tight-knit crew (the actual people that work there). Steve Spencer (Coach), who Phil mentions, is one of the most beloved and well-liked people in the bike scene by anyone who has ever met him. Just a fantastic person and a genuinely caring guy who I know is hurting right now. We haven't worked with GT in a couple of years, but my wife and son were both really, really bummed when I just broke the news to them because that group of...

I also like the feel of composite pedals over metal. They feel like they dampen vibration better.

$895 w/ Hope BB & chainring? That's more than twice as much as going rate for XX1 or Next cranksets, and heavier to boot. Hard pass.

It's not bad converting a 29 front end, you can get a lower headset cup that is extended to make up for the difference. If you have dual crowns, it's super easy, especially with a upper drop crown. Converting a small wheel to a big one will be much harder to preserve geometry, because you have no extra axle to crown length to use.

Its still way easier than World Champs. Either get a VPN and watch live, or wait 10-minutes after the live broadcast ends and watch the replay through RedBull TV. Considering its on a Saturday the latter is a great option because now you can go ride all day without feeling bad then watch Rampage over dinner and a beer.
