really? 3 world cup DH race winners (brook, remi, troy) and a boatload of world cup DH podium finishers doesn't constitute "elite talent"? rough.

Thanks for #s! Question about the extra foam they added around the Sas-Tec pad: how would you describe the density/flexibility of the foam? It looks quite soft & thin in the pictures. When testing pads I use the "doorjamb strike" method to test shock absorbency. If you swing your knee at the doorjamb, can you swing it as far and hard at that extra, stitched-on padding as at the thinner edges of the Sas-Tec pad?

Knee pad review game strong! When will Vital follow up your "heavy duty" pad shootout w/ a lightweight trail pad shootout? In the market & would really like to see if there are new offerings that can go toe-to-toe w/ G-Form for ounce-for-ounce protection, fit, durability & comfort.

FOX’s heavy-hitting single-crown fork has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years. Improvements in damping and sensitivity saw it claw back ground it had lost during a few darker years, to the point where it is now back to being regularly cited as one of the top performing forks in its category, including by this very website. That is of course no reason to stop trying to improve, so when FOX sent over a 2019 sample equipped with a brand new damper design, we were eager to get it on the trail to see what that...

All about what you're used to. I rode both the 27.5 & 29 version of the 36 RC2 and even w/ compression damping wide open it couldn't touch the small bump sensitivity of my Pike. Same goes for the new Fox 34s I've been on. Plushness off the top is not their strong suit.

This is a FANTASTIC review article! Very thorough and I love how detailed your highlights and lowlights are. I currently own the Raceface Ambush (and like them, although I agree with your assessment). But this is definitely where I'll go to when I need to buy new pads. Would love to see this kind of review for lightweight chest/core protection as well

Thanks for posting reviewer's measurements! Goes a long way towards ballparking fit if I have to order online. +1 on ChillyWilly's request for kneepad weights: it's the most telling metric for how warm the pads will be, & how much protection they'll offer.

After the helmet, a good pair of knee protectors is probably the most essential piece of protection for any serious mountain bike rider. Not only is falling on your knees painful, but even small injuries to this critical joint can leave you off the bike for a while, which is of course way worse than the actual getting hurt part. When it comes to racing enduro, the demands placed on this particular item of apparel increase exponentially: not only should it be able to deal with crashes on tracks worthy of a World Cup DH race, but it must also...

Less we forget GT had 34.9mm posts in 2013 on the 2014 Sensor and Force. That size never really took flight. Surprised evil and specialized decided to do it at all.

Sacki from BikeYoke here: Sorry, but this is not normal. What kind of clamp did you use? Hard anodizing can normally not come off from clamping in a regular work stand clamp at the very the first time. I am really curious. It would be cool to get some pictures of that.

Great, just when most brands seem to be settling on 31.6 as a standard, some bored product manager decides it's time to hype 34.9. So sick of this greedy industry hellbent on f*cking riders out of cross-compatibility at every possible turn!

I think the new 34.9 seatpost standard needs a name. Let's see: Boost Post? Plus Shaft? Max Girth?.... wait a minute, I got it: Magnum

Given the prevalence of "first look" reporting in this industry based on a couple rides at some press camp, your longevity / reliability reporting is highly commendable - Kudos on that. That said, on a $1000+ carbon wheelset, actual weight is the #1 spec distinguishing those wheels from a $600 aluminum wheelset w/ the same dimensions. I know the ride quality will be different, I own both kinds. Before I pay a 200-400% premium for a given component, however, I want to know not just that it has been deemed "solid" but also whether that huge premium also brings weight...
