Definitely a bummer but the right call. Let's just hope for a good racing season in 2021

BergMann Added a comment about feature MEGA Range: SRAM Eagle Goes to 52 Teeth

6/12/2020 11:17pm
Exactly! Obviously the reviewer does not do much technical climbing. Shifting from 42 to 50 under power on a chunky, tech climb at the limits of traction already causes jarring shifts in weighting. An even bigger gap would be completely unrideable for me in the terrain I'm most likely to use it.

BergMann Added a comment about product review Tires

4/15/2020 9:34pm
While it's great to see a new player enter the tire market at a high level on both performance and durability fronts, their "Direct to Consumer" pricing doesn't pencil out. I can buy any Specialized tire direct from Specialized or a dealer for $60. Street prices on any Maxxis I've ever bought are in the $50-$60 range. Direct to consumer brands need to provide a *better* value proposition than the established major players. YT does this by selling bikes at a 35% discount over comparable Santa Cruz or Specialized models. Why should we pay *more* for a new, unproven D2C...

I think you mean masochists. CushCore is the sadistic master, people who pay to for the extra installation abuse are the masochistic slaves.

Love this. Riding in fine dust six months of the year, stiction builds up pretty good over time. I've tried the oil change without taking off the lowers with minimal improvement, but your techniques hit the right points. I've also tried the oil under the dust wipers (short term solution) and oil on the stanchions (very short term and dust collector). Looking forward to trying this out.

SC adds their name to the boycott list of shame! Next to Marin, Santa Cruz has had the worst uphill struggle with trail-access in all of California. Throwing more fuel on the flame by building more eMopeds to shred the tenuous peace NorCal riders have worked so hard to build on local trails is unconscionable.

I'm not dead against e-bikes, but SC trying to justify this by saying it was to explore further in Downieville is just bollocks. Justy say we want to make more money!

BergMann Added a comment about product review Dropper V2

Just installed my OneUp 210mm a few weeks ago, & largely agree w/ Vital: it's pretty darn close to perfect. A couple caveats: disagreement on lever ergonomics: I've tried most of the long-armed lever designs (e.g. RaceFace, PNW...) that mimic the long throw of a SRAM upshift paddle, & find their overall length and travel to be overkill. W/ the more compact OneUp lever mimicking the position of a Shimano downshift lever, I wind up moving my thumb less overall (less reaching back off the bars and around the lever). The result? Faster, easier actuation. Second caveat: OneUp v2 post...

BergMann Added a comment about product review Revolver FS 120

Must be said: 26.5lbs is *NOT* light for an XC bike with a Sid up front. My XL 5010 is 26.5lbs with a Pike & full-blown AM spec. Intense's 120mm version of the Sniper at this pricepoint comes in at 24.5lbs with a 34 Stepcast and 23lbs in top trim. For any other category of bike, weight is no longer a top performance metric, but when the *whole point* is to drop mass for better power-to-weight ratio on the climbs, a 2lb weight difference is a KO punch in the XC prize-fight.
