RESULTS: iXS DH Cup Maribor - Greenland, Nicole Win 9

A pile of elite DH talent stacks up in Maribor a week before the first World Cup of 2018.

RESULTS: iXS DH Cup Maribor - Greenland, Nicole Win

Maribor, Slovenia, is known for its rough, natural and fast downhill course. Once a staple of the World Cup, the venue continues to play host to elite-level races through the iXS Downhill Cup series. Scheduling this year was picture-perfect drawing a large contingent of World Cup podium contenders looking to shake off the pre-season cobwebs by racing in the region near the first World Cup race of 2018, which takes place in Losinj, Croatia in a few days.

When the dust (it's more like loam and roots in Maribor) settled, Laurie Greenland and Myriam Nicole took Elite victories. Laurie won fairly convincingly with a 1.7-second margin over Amaury Pierron, but the Top 5 was separated by less than five seconds with Brook MacDonald, back on Mondraker bikes and team mate of Laurie Greenland in third. Rain may have played a part in the final results as the last few riders dealt with moisture.

While the Elite Women's field wasn't quite as deep, Myriam Nicole and Tracey Hannah, two of the top women who will be competing for the World Cup overall this season, had a serious battle separated by just .6 seconds at the line. Junior rider, Vali Holl would have placed 3rd in the Elite women's field.
