Here is the full statement from Dorval: DORVAL AM COMMENCAL TEAM STATEMENT AUGUST 21ST 2024 After 11 successful years racing DH all over the world, it’s time to pull the curtain on this amazing adventure for the Dorval AM racing team. Claude Pierré started the team in 2013 with the idea to help bring young riders to the races. One of them was Benoit. There was very little hopes and budget, and they had to fight to make the team what it is today. Allowing us to race full seasons. A decade later, we’ve proudly been at the top of...

I think their version of growing the sport is 20 percent of the people currently making a living from the racing industry make more money and the other 80 percent have to go and do something else entirely. I really feel for riders like Matt Walker and the Dorval riders , they're world class racers and at any point in the last few years they would have found a team but under the current circumstances they might struggle.

The whole 'growing' the sport thing pisses me off. I'm not sure how restricting access to the top level of competition whilst refusing to help establish a pathway to get there 'grows' the sport. I'm not sure how basically destroying top flight enduro 'grows' the sport. The want to 'grow' subscribers to their broadcast to increase it's 'value' so they can charge sponsors, teams and venues more. Who does that help exactly?

Might be a controversial opinion but I think he probably has the right intentions of wanting to grow the sport across all disciplines but he's limited on what he can actually do when WB are wanting to squeeze everything cent out of the lemon they can and then discard it and move on to the next one. WB don't see MTB as a sport/lifestyle like we do and only see it as a resource to make money. The worst part about it as they are not looking at it as a renewable resource, rather a finite resource. As much as...

8/22/2024 3:53pm
Weight doesn't matter to me personally. It's all about tires, rotating mass weight and suspension kinematics. I pedal a 39lb nomad with DH tires on 4-5k climbing days, I do both big/small days on my 19lb gravel bike with 48c tires. The difference in average speed, climbing pace and how I feel has more to do with me then it does the equipment. I'm not racing, I'm not a pro athlete but I do like to suffer. I'm honestly not sure why people get so wrapped up with weight of their bike and quite frankly struggle to understand how/why they...

E-EDR is like if we would have a DH hardtail category at the World Cup. It's cool to be inclusive and all that but it doesn't really belong to the elite level. It should be a kind of cat3 discipline. What kind of skills or athleticism can a top rider demonstrate better on an ebike than a regular bike?

To your last point I fear you're probably right. With most contracts seeming to be around the 3 year mark and (in my opinion) an unlikelihood that teams will expand their rider numbers it's hard to see how upcoming riders will break through. Maybe teams will go down the route of shorter contracts? For sure it's going to be harder for a lot of riders under these changes.

Further, as DH specific bikes are niche. Going to set limited amount corporation teams, for DH racing will kill off brands of bikes who focus on gravity. How and why is that a good thing. Only a handful of people will benefit in profit, if it ever achieves that…doubtful. The parallels they are trying to achieve, come with way more...

While I somewhat agree, these are things that are going to weigh heavily on the next 2-3 years of contracts and what teams exist moving forward. If a team isn't sure they have a place in a game, are they going to sign people for more than a year going into this season? Will they already be trimming heavily? Will another broadcaster finally pick up on smaller regional or national feeder series and make them something where people can eat and support racing locally which will actually increase competition? I think that the conversation above will have a very heavy...

It's profitable for every team because they share revenue. That's why the field is limited to 10 teams, nobody wants to share with more teams. Hence why Andretti was not allowed to join and why Renault will probably sell their team to andretti for more than $1B. BTW, Haas isn't the worst team, that would be Sauber which will become Audi in 2026.

I'm wondering if there will be a mechanism for teams to be promoted/relegated to and from the feeder series', or if it'll be a closed shop like F1 and the only way for riders to hit the big league will be to hope spots will open up in one of those 20 teams. If it's the latter I think that'll be truly terrible for the sport.

Probably because the UCI won't drop any more track disciplines to make room for it. Personally, I'm glad for it. DH currently has enough on it's plate without having to cosy up to the IOC.
