Everyone will have individual preferences for the athletes they are drawn to as fans. But I also think it’s comical that there is so much discussion about who to root for/against. How lucky are we as a sport that our two titans at the moment are Bruni and Jackson. Both seem like incredibly rad humans who are humble and genuine. Hell, nearly everyone in our sport seems awesome (I can only think of one egregious potential bad apple and a second sour one). Have a personal favorite, but acknowledge they are all pretty damn awesome.

I think @Ron_Goldstone & company have heard/seen it all typed out in the public sector. He's probably heard way worse in a lift line (where I'd be swinging on people if they negative nancy my lil athlete). 🙃 Nobody here is saying Jackson is a bad human being. So on the Jackson deal, rooting for him this year has been the coolest since rooting for Gwin ten years ago. I can't hate on Bruni for trying to get in his head but Goldstone responded the Canadian/midwest way and let his riding do all of his talking. Couldn't be more stoked for him, I can show his vids to friends kids when he was shredding little bikes and then blow their minds by showing him winning world Champs, it's great for the sport.

The "only shifts at the ramps" thing is a myth that SRAM isn't going out of their way to correct. There is no sensing of position, torque, or anything else going on -- so it's simply not a real thing. It was just rate limited to make sure us hoons didn't blow up chains too quickly. The existence of Transmission mechanical groupsets is evidence enought that you can bang shifts as fast as you want and things are hunky dorry.

Mondraker splitting up their team or not re-signing anyone would be a huge mistake. From outward appearances, they all get along well. There are definitely many growing mountain bike scenes across Asia. Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, like you said. Singapore has a huge community, while Thailand and has some amazing trails. I've heard unfortunate rumblings that I hope aren't true, that MTB is in decline in Japan. I find it hard to root against Jackson for a bunch of reasons: 1. He's obviously a generational talent on a bike. 2. He looks like he has fun every time he gets on the bike, whether it's practice, in a race or at the local dirt jumps. 3. (Maybe the most important to me) He seems to be stoked for everyone. He placed 16th in Les Gets and is reposting Ronan's winning run. He's almost always at the finish line, waiting to congratulate his competitors. He might be one of best riders on a bike, but he hypes up...

No doubt Goldstone is a nice kid but he’s far from the average mtb bro. He’s basically a factory product, groomed to a level beyond what we’ve seen in the past (no BK jokes please 😂). I think our expectations as fans and his own expectations are just so high that his first rainbow jersey and WC overall feel like a bit of a formality. What’s more exciting is the fact that he’s got the potential to be an all time record breaker. I’ll be rooting for him in 2040.

I am not finding it hard to root for him. Now if he keeps going next year or two like this it will change maybe. I am enjoying his taking it to those who had been dominating.

Wasn't the Super-Bruni thing a joke a fan came up with a few years ago? I know Loic has said he leans into it for world champs weekend to try to get into an unbeatable headspace.
