Jeesus, the pressure on Bruni must be insane, we all know how much he loves racing and fighting for the overall but potentially missing the birth of you first child... crazy

You might be able to notice the affects of anti-squat more when seated, but standing and pedaling is where most people need more of it. Pedaling technique could be debated, but most move up and down quite a bit when pedaling while standing. That load adds to the squat that would be experienced from accelerations forces alone.

Precisely. Theoretically at 100% anti-squat the sum of the moments about the IC is zero so the suspension neither squats nor rises. In reality, I think you want a little more than that to counter center of mass bobbing up and down. That's a hard one to quantify though. You could argue that for a bike that's geared towards fire road climbs where you're seated most or all of the time you could do minimal anti-squat and see no bob.

Can someone explain how the business model for carbon wheels ever worked? I buy a wheelset for $1.5k and it has a lifetime warranty. I swap them from bike to bike indefinitely because I've invested a good chunk of money in the hoops. I am never a repeat customer unless I take up the n+1 bike life, or go mullet /full 29 (feel like most people know which rear wheel size want on this front at this moment in history) Said, carbon wheels company now has to spend tons on marketing to try and court new customers for almost every...

Interesting post from Gwinny about a crash he had at the U.S. Open last week, and the onsite services that were available through Dirt Medical and NeruoCatch to diagnose and test for a concussion. Sounds like the next level in safety that DH races need.

Totally. It's frustrating because if someone has an issue with the tires, they don't blame the PM at the bike brand, they blame the tires.

The holes let oil up to the upper bushing… those are already on current 38 boxxer. Someone patented the channel around the bushings. I’m sure fatigue is been calculated and tested. RS didn’t mess around with fatigue. Also curious how they’re making the dimples.

You can find photos of Finn dragging the link thru the ground. It was a pretty clear problem for the race team let alone a bike you intend to sell to the public. For me the redesign takes it from a bike I’d have zero interest in owning to a bike I simply probably can’t afford.

The old one had a lower pivot, which performed well enough, but it seemed like Specialized were concerned about it being too low down and at risk of being scuffed or bashed on rocks. When they moved the linkage out of the way, it changed the pedalling characteristics a heck of a lot, and not for the better. So either they could have made it with an idler that doesn't let the chain wrap around the chain ring for more than 8 or so teeth, or they go for the 2 chain route. IMO the chain system is a packaging...

All weather reports for US races must use Freedom Units only. Many are saying these are the BEST units of measure in the UNIVERSE as I INVENTED them MYSELF. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Cathro posted a pretty good explainer about all the track build drama over at his day job. Worth a watch. Excited for this race and supremely bummed I can't get up there for it this year.

@synBike I will DM you. I have no experience with the teensy boards and only a bit in Arduino as I am mainly programming in C in my daily work but that is interesting for sure. I really like the idea! I already did a bit of data crunching with what I got in python but ultimately I would use something a bit faster in the future. Althouth python is always easy for visualization and stuff. @enricorodella22 I get your point with the open source solution and trouble shooting in high pressure situations. But that's nothing a home user needs...

I second this. You start at the top, and work your way down the course. If you were staying multiple days you could hang out more in different spots, but Thursday is just practice so you want to keep moving. Wednesday is track walk day so I would watch all the videos you can and see how things look, and maybe you will find spots that you think will be cool to watch from. Just make sure you have food and water/electrolytes with you. Hiking sneakers/shoes are a must. I am sure it will be cool in the morning make...

I think part of it was the heavy chain and the decent amount of slack from the larger cassette making it so you cant run the chain as taught. If you cut the cassette down to 7-speed and use a narrower range, the cage can hold the chain tighter, and a lighter chain would make it even better. I think this setup didn’t highlight Saint’s optimal performance, but those changes would help a lot. It's also a note about how our expectations have shifted over the last decade with derailleur noise. They have gotten quite good (if the clutches actually...
