I also worked at a dealer when the SBs launched and yeah, it was as bad as the comment sections made it sound

I worked at a dealer during that time too and it was absolutely as bad as the internet thought it was. I don’t buy the “pre-production” excuse. They all exploded, pretty much every SB5c and SB6c we sold. Front end, rear end, they all broke. At one point we had two bike boxes full of dead triangles.

looks like they're the creation of that Lee likes bikes guy. I've always thought that guy was kinda an idiot.

What I took away from this Charlie is that you’re still riding 175mm cranks

Just to clarify, that's the gearbox's fault, not the belt. Above 150W or so, belts are more efficient than chains as long as they have proper tension. The belt vs chain efficiency difference is negligible once you throw the 5-10% power loss from a gearbox into the mix.

While I agree it seems undergunned, the fastest woman I know runs the stock shock on her TR11 and says it’s fine. She is pretty light though. They also chose it when the Float X2s were still exploding. My guess is they wanted to spec it with an air shock and they didn’t want to choose one that would die...

They’ve only sold one “year” of the TR11 and they’ve been sold out for ages. A handful of frames recently became available on their website. My theory is that that they were warranty frames being held back and delivery of new colors is imminent. It’s interesting to hear that it’s considered a flop. I really like mine and they were...

The requirements for the hole to mount the UBM to are about the same as the requirements for a dropout in general. Then you need a post to act as a torque brace. That's it. Facing post mounts is a damn PITA as it requires VERY special tools as opposed to BB/HT reaming/facing. The complexity for a frame designer is, for better or for worse, lower with a (properly executed) UBM.

The super interesting thing to me about that UBM patent is that it looks like the upper mount is floating and then secured by a pinch bolt the way some forks do. Theoretically you’d have perfect alignment because the caliper is aligned by the hub endcap and the upper mount is just to counteract the brake torque.
The massive problem with fork compliance is that it causes bushing bind. Go apply a mild torsional load to pretty much any MTB fork (except the EXT Vaia) and it basically stops moving. This isn’t really a problem for moto because the upper bushing is mounted on the stanchion. I believe the moving bushing is also why split clamps are...
1000N isn’t a massive load. Assuming a 75kg rider with a 50/50 weight distribution, it’s only 2.7g. Your 30g is probably at a much higher frequency than what would typically cause frame displacement. For your 28 vs 32h question. A frame and a wheel are essentially springs in series. Deflections would add together for greater total displacement. You can’t “use...

You’re not posting rumours. You’re just gossiping and stirring. Either post something useful and insightful or don’t bother. The “I’ve got a secret but I’m not telling anyone” is just a bit pathetic and more than childish. It’s fine if you can’t say anything, but if that’s the case just be a adult and shush. This thread is clogged up enough as it is. Lets face it, every major player is working on something so we can all post that quite easily!

I'm far from an expert on patents (and that one is especially hard to read) but I'm not seeing anything where it mentions removable batteries or power sources. I found what I think is the original SRAM patent and I'm also not seeing anything talking about battery or power source mounting. It looks to me like most of the patent...

Looks like they offer a short cage option with the ability to pick the number of speeds in software. It could be super cool on a DH bike if it’s built well. It doesn’t look like the battery is swappable though which would be a major negative.

HBO on my new Super Deluxe coil is awesome, and Rockshox shocks do not require a vacuum bleeder. Simple if you have a bench vice and shaft clamps. Also Rockshox has phenomenal tech documents and if you follow the directions it’s kind of idiot proof. Reshimming shouldn’t be a big hurdle if you’re a capable home mechanic.
