8/6/2024 8:52am When you say making it softer, do you mean the initial breakaway force? If so, it does a bit, but it’s still heavy. It also makes the brake feel kinda mushy and I have to move the lever reach way out due to the increased throw. I don’t like it.

8/3/2024 7:46am I really don’t see the point of that bike over a Patrol/Spire with a dual crown fork and cascade link. It’s only 180mm so it’s not a real DH bike, but you get none of the conveniences that you would get on a super enduro. Things like water bottle/tool storage, and the option to run a dropper.

8/2/2024 7:18am I’ve been putting HS2 rotors on everything. Other than folding one by sliding into a tree, they’ve been good.

8/1/2024 7:38am I think a mullet Scout is pretty much guaranteed, the only question is when. Given the state of the market, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to consolidate their lineup by merging the Scout and the Sentinel. One frame for mullet or 29 with some geo adjustments would be pretty cool. I’d seriously consider opening up my wallet if...

7/29/2024 7:47am Hope aren’t wrong, “Overall performance” is the same, the brake doesn’t make more stopping power with a braided line. It just slightly firms up the lever feel after the pads contact the rotor. Regarding front-rear differences, in my experience it seems to vary between brands based on the hoses they spec. The worst I’ve seen was Magura, their hoses were...

7/29/2024 6:43am Burst pressure and hose stiffness aren’t the same thing. The braided lines do make a small noticeable difference on trail. The lever feel improves with braided lines because they expand less under pressure. It’s not a big improvement but it is noticeable. I’d say it’s about the same as the normal difference between front and rear brakes due to the...

7/28/2024 7:47am I don’t think that’s a Ransom. The proportions of the shock bolt and shock cover are wrong. Also, it’s hard to tell from the angle, but I think the rocker link is longer and the seattube-toptube junction is way closer to the rocker link.

7/23/2024 3:08pm Could you use a through axle for a 150x12 frame and add a couple of washers to make it smaller? I know Hadley still makes them.

7/23/2024 2:13pm I wonder what the weight penalty is for adding internal routing to a carbon frame. A lot of the penetrations aren't in low stress areas, so there must be some more material to account for it.
Nobble Added a reply to The Internet Was Wrong: Short Chainstays Suck*
7/23/2024 8:10am I have a theory that adding stack is the counter to long rear centers making a bike hard to manual/lift without sacrificing the benefits of longer chainstays. Adding stack means that the rider creates a larger moment (rotating force) when pulling back and lifting the bike into a manual.

7/20/2024 10:35am The common issues on Enduro frames I know of are: 1. Early sworks frames came with a carbon pull-link. These had issues breaking. 2. The integrated headset bearing races have issues cracking and delaminating 3. They've had issues cracking on the seat tube where the rocker link pivot goes through. As far as I know, the only one that's still...

7/18/2024 2:25pm It kinda smells like marketing fluff to me. You literally have to use a different layup for each size because the carbon fabric cut pattern for a small isn’t enough material to make an XL frame.

7/18/2024 10:48am Turq, CC, etc are built using a more expensive and stronger grade of carbon fiber. They’re not the same material with a different layup.

7/17/2024 4:12pm I just found that Galfer lists an adapter specifically for a 223 rotor on the 40, and they list is as a +23 for some reason. https://galfer.eu/bike/new-caliper-adapter-sb005/ Sounds like maybe there is something a bit fishy with the mount. For sale here: https://gripandpedal.co/product/galfer-disc-brake-adaptor-23mm-fox-40-4…

7/17/2024 3:55pm Is it possible your rotors are the issue? It seems like the issue persists with a bunch of caliper and adapter combinations that should work.

7/17/2024 7:23am As you go up in rotor size, the angle the caliper needs to shift gets smaller. That’s why a +20 adapter for 160-180 won’t work for a 200-220, they rotate the caliper too much. Mavens have two +20 adapters, are you sure you used the right one? I think it should be the 20P-2. Have you tried a Hope “P”...

7/16/2024 9:35am While that is true, if the front center grows without the rear center also growing, the weight distribution shifts more and more towards the rear. This results in being forced to ride with more weight on your hands which is generally undesirable. IMO, your hands should mostly be used for controlling the bike and fore-aft stability, not for supporting your...

3/4/2014 8:01am It's not that, it's the fact that a 34t chainring allows for more ground clearance without sacrificing the gear range.
