rybrentd Liked a product review Compromise between HR2 and Aggressor yet better than both?
4/1/2020 9:54am
Ican't believe the reviews for this tire are so few and far between. I have the 2.4 EXO Maxxterra (27.5) that I put on the rear in November of 2019 and having ridden many tires from the Maxxis lineup (which is my basis for comparison) including DHF, DHR2, HR2, and Aggressor, I will compare this to their other rear tires. I feel like it has better climbing grip but slightly slower rolling speed than the aggressor (2.3, dc exo) but the braking, traction, and cornering characteristics closer to a HR2. You can punch into corners or drift into them...

Itook the plunge on these (a very spendy, especially for me, 90€ plunge) after trying a couple of contenders to start with; I started with a pair of Alpinestars Paragon knees as they were the cheapest. I really liked them as they were really breathable, as well as being pretty damn comfy. So much so that it almost felt like riding padless. The problem was that the silicone grippers started to fall off after a week of use. Sent them back and got a full refund. In their defense this could have easily been a one off, so don't...

t.martin Liked a product review Reliable, long lasting, great grip (27.5 Tough/Fast Rolling)

Ican't say enough about how much I like this tire. It's phenomenal especially when things are loose. Sure on pavement and hardpack it's going to roll a little slower - but on most trails in Colorado and elsewhere, where conditions are usually anything but, it's the best tire I have ridden. I often run this tire on the front with a better rolling WTB on the rear, either a Breakout or Trail Boss. It has a ton of bite and is very predictable on edge. The standout feature to the Vigilante and the other WTB Tough casing tires is...

Hollywood Gainey Liked a comment about Feature Vital MTB Face Off: The Best Heavy-Duty Disc Brakes
12/21/2017 8:50pm I felt the same way when I first went away from Shimano brakes. It wasn't long though till I started to really see and appreciate a more linear brake feel for both racing and joy riding.

12/21/2017 8:42pm hollywood: pb's feature was pretty poor imo. despite their title they did not declare a winner or even rate the brakes. they also didn't try them back to back and each of their brakes were ridden by different testers in different parts of the world. how does that make sense in a comparison? i do agree that dyno measurements would have been cool for this feature. can't imagine lab tests like that are readily available or economical though.

bjenson Added a reply to Forum Hot Seat - Dave Camp, RockShox Design Engineer
11/19/2015 11:57am ever been to taiwan to oversee production of something? what was it like?
the high bb thing almost makes one wonder if the bike was originally designed to be a 130/140mm bike, then marketing got involved and said "we must have a long travel carbon enduro bike! i know, let's just put a longer shock in there." then all the engineers secretly shook their heads in the corner.

"notable sources have set the M6 as the benchmark in the enduro / trail category." consider your sources. have you seen those guys ride? have they ever raced an enduro event? where did they test the bike? imo enduro & trail are not the same thing. one is a race and the other is just riding. different demands for each. i doubt one bike can be the supposed benchmark for both.

bjenson Started a new thread 2014/2015 Avid Guide Disc Brakes
8/18/2014 4:28am check out these new brakes. they use the same caliper as the current trail brakes but have a new lever and new rotors. looks like easier to adjust pad contact too. [i]With Family Guide, SRAM has brakes designed for a rather versatile use of cross-country enduro through the hike and all-mountain. Technology that wants to forget about the problems faced...
