In a production environment, wouldn’t you just machine on a lathe and then use a roller burnishing tool? IIRC that’s the way shock bodies were done when I was in the Fox machine shop. I don’t know if the process has limitations with larger diameters.

You can totally do a sliding bushing in a conventional fork, but conventional lowers construction doesn’t really facilitate that. You’d need to add a harder sliding surface inside of the mag casting. With an inverted fork you just have to do some extra machining inside your upper tubes. Me and a friend have actually been toying with the idea of...

I’d still be willing to give one a fair shake on trail. I’m always open to being proven wrong. Out of curiosity, what was the reasoning for pursuing an inverted layout over conventional? Opportunity for increased bushing overlap via a dynamic bushing is the main upside I see inverted offering. Increased seal lubrication is nice but less important if you...

Push are kinda boneheads. My friend got into it with them at the Sea Otter because they didn’t do a dynamic bushing in their inverted fork. They claimed it makes no difference and yet it binds up pretty badly when you lightly load it in torsion. (It’s a noodle torsionally too because it’s inverted)

i never posted it here but the slowmo vid from MSA below has some fantastic examples of bikes/forks flexing, especially in the slab section with slow-but-big curb-like hits on the front wheel. rocks start around 4 mins i think. sometimes the forks flex, sometimes the frames do. energy has to go somewhere (and yes, i know everyone wants the fork to absorb the energy through its operation).

I’ve owned nearly every generation of Boxxer between 2004 and 2020. They’re perfectly fine for reliability. Have you ever even owned one, or are you just shitting on it because you saw a photo online? BTW, if you blow up that G-Out photo and hold up a ruler, it’s nowhere near as deflected as it looks. The number plate and...

It’s been nearly 10 years since I covered it in school, but IIRC the bending stiffness of a tube is Stiffness = E*(pi/64)*(OD^4 - ID^4). Because the diameters are scaled to the 4th power, small increases in stanchion size can yield huge stiffness increases. Crown stiffness quickly becomes a limiting factor though. That’s why a 38mm single crown works like...
It’s really not hard to just pull a little fluid from the caliper to get the air out when you open the port. My process is always to pull a little fluid from the caliper to clear that hose, and then push fluid up to the lever to clear the lever syringe hose. From there you can push/pull however you...

Those are actually quite a bit cheaper than a pair of the Fox crowns. The only problem is that they don’t offer a dropped upper crown. I’m not sure if I could make a flat upper crown work on my XL frame.

You can get 48mm crowns from Fox. The 44mm have been discontinued but they did have the lower crown and flat upper crown a few months back. Here's the part numbers...

Last time I talked to the LBS, they said that the 44 and the 48 lower crown were both unavailable with no estimated stock date. I was considering buying a Marzocchi 58 for the crowns because they’ve been on sale but it looks like they ditched the 48mm option too.

It’s not 100% on topic for this thread, but it’s probably more on topic than the crustacean discussion. A while back I think I saw some slick moto style split triple clamps on here. Does anyone remember what they were, or if anyone else makes aftermarket Fox 40 crowns? I’m trying to find a set of 44 or 48mm offset...

But when? The last rumor I read said 9/25, but that was yesterday and was clearly wrong. I think it’s the last bike I’m waiting for before I decide what I’m gonna get.

Don't you people have your tools in bags in the frame storage? I have zero rattle in there if I use the bags the frame came with. Maybe you just drop a few allen keys in there idk.

The times I’ve tried strapping a tube on my frame, the strap has worn a hole into the tube after a few months of use rendering it useless. I’m happy to have a oneup pump/tool and a tube in my Enduro. It’s kinda like having the spare tire and jack in the trunk of your car. 99% of the time...
High end prices keep climbing, but the mid range has never been stronger. Shed a few bells and whistles and you can get a lot of bike for the money. Take the New Bronson for example. You can save $3100 off the price of the top end build by getting the S build. You get mechanical GX Eagle which is...
