11/29/2024 7:20pm Doesn’t make sense to have such cassettes, there’s only a 10% difference in range, not to mention the fact making both a 10t and a 9t cogs isn’t cost-effective. I guess you mean a 9-51t cassette. Also, can’t really believe they’ll axe the Saint - what’s gonna cover the dh- and fr-bikes? Some short-cage version of the regular groups? Better just call it the Saint derailleur, if there isn’t any real meaning in making an entire Saint group!

11/29/2024 7:04pm That thing actually rode great and while they were out demoing them at the local shuttle spot regularly to try and gain traction, even though it had lots, like all linkage bikes, nope. Just too extreme when people have an idea of what they like. Everyone is also big on those pedals if they have them. They're weighed low so they self level and have a ton of grip.

11/29/2024 7:02pm I'm waiting for some actual tech rumors. Maybe a specific chat on product copying/sourcing/geo-cultural-politics

11/29/2024 7:02pm China are smashing the EV industry right now. They’ve almost got standard batteries that you can swap out in minutes instead of charging them. You just pay a lease on the battery and don’t have to bear the huge expense of replacing them after a few years. Pull in to a battery station, swap them out and off you go. Then the station charges them and they go to the next customer. Sadly it’ll never take off in the rest of the world because our manufacturers are too proud to standardise a part like that. Regardless of the benefits.

11/29/2024 7:00pm Poorly Made in China is a good read that touches on that as far as manufacturers making what is asked of them, wild variability among manufacturers, cultural influences on that, etc. People, mostly in the US it seems, like to yell about China but made in China doesn't automatically mean 'bad' or 'garbage' any more than made here in the US automatically means 'good' or 'quality'. There is definitely a range there then between rip-off, homage (if you feel have a more charitable mood), a riff, innovative thing with quality revolving around on who is making it, who actually designed...

11/29/2024 3:24pm Yeah. Like I said I wasn’t defending Lewis. Just attacking the other two. Trickstuff have a very expensive and good product but haven’t done any improvements for years (and years). 5Dev are also very expensive but their product is not that good (according to the grapevine) I don’t feel sorry for either of them being copied and along with Lewis, neither are on the list of things I have any desire to buy.

11/29/2024 3:23pm For the most part us actual lewis owners are pretty stoked with what we've got. I can't recommend them enough, and I know plenty of others who feel the same. That being said I can't decide how to feel about the crank rip off, because people with the real 5devs aren't happy with them anyways (snapping)

11/29/2024 3:21pm I was OK with the Lewis brakes because of them being pretty open about them reverse engineering the trickstuff brakes and them gradually moving away from that design, but those cranks are ridiculous. Of all the cranks to rip off, why some of the ugliest on the market haha? Just don't get their visual appeal.

11/29/2024 3:12pm Ok Jeff, here's two important questions for you: Do Rise Mtb's rubberized fingers penetrate deep? The magnet, how does it work?

11/29/2024 2:22pm Agreed. Unpopular opinion to have around these parts, but there's something very plumbing-esque about it.

11/29/2024 2:18pm I'd hope to see them increase the seat tube insertion on the 150 to be similar to the 170 with a straight tube.

11/29/2024 2:10pm Why would 1 need clearance for 2.3mm rotors? The current 2mm design is pretty dialed in already and goes up to 220mm size. Only thing I can think they need to change - even more power, not because it needs it, but for bragging rights against Trickstuff and Intend! 😁

11/29/2024 2:05pm Front freewheels are great aside from all the drag, and your entire drivetrain and rear wheel exploding as soon as your chain comes off or anything gets caught in your derailleur at speed.

11/26/2024 10:05am At the shop I work at we say "buy nice or buy twice". It's really not an elitist thing (none of us would be considered rich), just an acknowledgement that in many cases buying the well made, more expensive product is cheaper in the long run.

11/26/2024 10:02am Funny bit about Ali is how you can get genuine Shimano & SRAM components for dirt cheap as well as 'other' components. In that aspect it's like how Pro Bike Kit was back 10+ years ago. Working at a shop then, it wasn't necessarily uncommon for us to order a group for a customer off there as they had em in stock and were often cheaper than our wholesale pricing through the big 3 wholesalers at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if some shops are using Ali to fulfill orders the same way. The internet age really stole value...
