1/29/2025 8:24am This is the (Horst) linkage, defining the axle path: This drives the shock: If it's the same colour, it's a single piece. The chainstay of the horst link has an extension, to which the red short link attaches and pulls down on it to rotate the silver rocker, driving the shock.

1/28/2025 7:30pm Bushing require tight tolerances and proper maintenance. The cycling industry is crappy at tight tolerances. Most cyclist are crappy at maintenance. It's a win win resulting in the horrible reputation that bushings have. Like press fit bearings, they are the correct engineering solution. But that would require the bike industry to stop being crappy.

1/28/2025 8:18am Any time you don't have full rotation (or slow rotation) a bushing is the better option. Technically bushing should be better for all pivots. Two problems. We riders don't want the suspension being stiff and/or binding and we don't want the bike to clack around. Bushing require quite a bit more clearance (technically) vs. what a bearing needs to function (clearance of bearings is in the range of microns to hundreths of a mm when not axially preloaded, and bearings technically should be axially preloaded for best performance, which is a topic of discussion in another thread). That will make...

jaker Liked a reply to forum topic What fork for the new dh bike?
1/27/2025 9:30pm I have the Dorado Pro on my Zerode G3. It’s my favorite DH fork that I’ve ridden. It does take more time and testing to find the sweet spot, but if you don’t mind a little testing, you can get a very composed and smooth fork with great support. The clicks are very pronounced. One click will be on, and the next very off. I like fast and rough DH. It’s also very composed with excellent chassis feel in braking bumps. I really don’t like the chassis feel of the Boxxer in fast dry and loose breaking bumps.

1/27/2025 9:30pm Dorado and DH38 are best forks in my opinion. Both are more tricky to set up than Boxxer or 40 but they will reward you if you like to tinker. Boxxer is easy and less adjustments. I enjoy the Fox damper and airspring but the 40 chassis is much to rigid for me, IMHo. I’m 175lb, Vet expert rider.

1/27/2025 9:27pm its all ready, along with a new 34 and 36 chassis and air spring. Maybe they will even show the new inverted prototype DH fork at sea otter too.

1/27/2025 11:55am 77designz just released their new bar after parting ways with WeAreOne. Looks like they are using the same principle as before with a thinner 33mm bar and a thicker 35mm stem clamping area. Instead of a alloy sleeve it is just thicker layup. Their previous bar was 258g and this new one is 220g. Also much cheaper at 163.85 € compared to 279.95 € before https://www.77designz.com/barlerina

Between The Tape Liked a forum topic High vs. Low Tire Pressures: Which Is Faster?
1/24/2025 8:12am We all know the theory: lower tire pressures mean more grip, and higher pressures roll faster. But when it comes to real-world speed, which one really wins? I set out to answer this with 30 timed runs down the same track. ◾ The Experiment Two sets of tire pressures were chosen for my 88kg (194lbs) weight: 25/28 psi (front/rear) for the higher pressures and 18/20 psi (front/rear) for the lower pressures. These pressures maintain a consistent 0.9 front-to-rear ratio, with the high pressures aligning with recommendations such as those from E13 . After three warm-up laps, each tire pressure setup...

synBike Liked a reply to forum topic The Mountain Bike Bearing Discussion
1/23/2025 9:21pm From an industry perspective Enduro is almost ubiquitous for a few reasons: 1. They offer a lot of bicycle-specific sizes that can be very hard (and relatively expensive) to source elsewhere. They are one of the few suppliers with a wide range of max complement small bearings. Max complement is a big improvement in load capacity for the specific use case of suspension pivots (high dynamic load, low rotation speeds). 2. They are well known and have lots of international support for people replacing bearings. Go try replacing all the bearings on a Pivot Firebird with NTN equivalents. You might...
