Just their single damping circuit "cheap" version of a rear coil. Probably still close to $1000 I bet.

So I wonder if there’s a certain brands rubber that is less affected in cold temps than others? Was your used Tacky Chan a soft or super soft compound? I just bought a set of Tacky’s in SuperTrail casing with super soft front and soft rear to try out. I normally will dry seat them and leave them inflated to...

Working on bikes isn’t rocket science. If you want shit done right you will always be better off doing it yourself. My lbs’s are pretty ignorant when it comes to mtb unfortunately. So I had to learn how to work on my own brakes. Turns out, it’s easy!

I’ve gone from m8100/mt7 to the E4 and found my braking control has improved significantly, loved the initial power and bite of the shigura setup but found much more consistent control with the new hope brakes. The only negative is the pistons can move TOO freely and sometimes that leads to inconsistent lever feel, all sorted by pushing the pistons back and resetting which takes no time at all.

The air spring is a fully self-contained cartridge, so it wouldn’t matter if the inside of the fork legs were marred by a coil spring in this case…

I too am very curious about running these. I currently have Shigura setup (XTR9020/MT7) and I’ve found it difficult to control when riding slower steep sections that are off camber. It’s too easy to lock up the wheels and I find myself focusing too much on how light I need to be with the lever pulls. I also notice that...

This is good topic I don't think gets enough attention. I'm slowly gathering data on it but its going to take a while to test everything! A few things I've noticed - Tyres are spring, and air pressure changes the spring rate but they are not an air spring! ie the gas pressure doesn't increase much when they compress. The casing construction being energised by that pressure is what turns them in to a "spring" Pressure + width affects the contact patch and pressure + casing changes the spring rate so these 2 need to be balanced to get the...

This is a good point - the main reason I see people not getting travel is simply friction from the bushings! A 5wt oil might be OK in this specific application, because the bushings are so long that if the clearance is tight it can suit a lighter oil, which will be better at high speeds where a thick oil can create measurable drag. Its a combination of stanchion diameter + bushing length + clearance that determines the ideal viscosity. I usually find the stock dynamic "light" lube @ 50cSt is a really good balance for most forks but if...

Yeah, but not as much ramp as the zeb. I think they both have a lot of potential but personally I’m not as impressed with them out of the box as the reviews say. Maybe it’s personally ride feel preference or maybe my Ohlins DH38 was just a better fork for me. Hopefully get out on the zeb again soon and do some more testing. Going to shuttle today and try my Boxxer adjustments.

Neko did a video early in his series, using data it showed he had a slight change in dynamic sag while testing with and without oChain. I have done back to back, before I had data and could "feel" a difference in my feet, this was on a Trek Session that has a mid pivot idler. From that point on, I use it. I also ride flat pedals, so it make me more confident on the connection to pedals with much less feeling that my feet are sliding forward in square edge hits. I'm normally in a 6 degree setting...

I hope the bias in my conclusion was glaring, because I tried to spell it out as clearly as possible. I had an expectation for the Deviate and, to my surprise, that expectation wasn't met when I rode it. I'd love to ride it with an entry level shock to see how the axle path feels with less damping and more suspension bob.

What you describe sounds just like super-short chainstay bikes, not necessarily a high pivot. I'm super curious to hear your feedback on that Dreadnaught to verify your theory. LONG RANT INBOUND From my limited experience, it sounds like one of the main benefits of high or mid-high pivot bikes is that the idler pulley on most designs acts like a chainless rear suspension- it is typically tuned to reduce any chain pull and subsequent drag on suspension performance. Its hard to sus out this difference along with the change in axle path. A more rearward axle path will obviously help...

Well the tech rumors thread keeps getting derailed and I like kinematics as much as anyone else so figured I’d start a thread on it. First off, there is some personal preference here and there certainly isn’t a one size fits all solution to bike suspension. So no one is necessarily wrong, they just might like their bike to behave differently. For example I don’t like bikes with low anti rise because I find the rear extends too much under super heavy braking or creeping into steep chutes for my liking. But I know a lot of people out there...

Indeed. Which is why I have this on the go. Pretty? not really. Nails the kinematics and functionality though, for me. Please ignore the unfinished business in many areas.
