Something that also doesn't translate well across the Atlantic is our use of highly offensive words as terms of endearment: in Scotland, if you think highly of someone, it is more than acceptable to describe them as a "good c**t". Unlike a bike company executive who signed off on headset cable routing, who may instead be referred to as a "bit of a c**t". Context is everything.

So I few observations- "packing" is just as much a low speed rebound thing as high speed. Maybe more as the bike just naturally ratchets itself down and sits at a deeper, stiffer part of the stroke. Not just in repeated big bumps. It can also be just as much a case of the spring or compression damping being too soft. You maybe don't need the wheel to "recover" so much as not end up so deep in the first place. HSR adjustments are Ok in theory - they don't always work quite right in practise but it does make...

I don't know if this will apply to your situation, but I found the HSC knob on my new '23 Super Deluxe to add a lot of harshness on high speed chatter and rocks without adding a lot of upside. I live in a desert with rocks and a lot of high speed chatter, not unlike your ride at Moab. The low speed knob and HBO were friendly but my HSC is either wide open or 1 click from open. It's hard to give general advice for these things, would we be able to get your weight and current settings? Things like "stiffer" are relative so it could be possible that the base tune is too soft even if you have the dials wound in, for example. One thing I notice with the giants is they do need less sag at the shock than some bikes, have you tried a stiffer spring? A soft set up can hang up the back wheel too, so going up a rate helps it to not bog down between bumps and skip over them...

Bladed spokes on an enduro carbon rim sucks. I’ve broken countless on my rear Union. Also, they don’t seem to help at all in the compliance aspect. T-Bob, what would be your choice if you had to pick between DT Comp’s or DT SuperComps? And why? 🙏

Dude, when the man said ”influencers”, he actually meant the people who PUT IN THE WORK and changed our bikes for the good, not some guys from YouTube, who turn some knobs and are all in for the news. Before there were influencers of today, followed on social media, the people who were influencing stuff were the ones who worked in certain domains, mostly behind the scenes, and used their work to change their respective industries for the better. The compression tune for the low pivot bike would be less stiff than on the high pivot bike, wouldn’t it? Because the high pivot bike has lower shaft speeds at the shock and therefore requires more damping to get similar control of wheel/axle speeds? I understood Steve’s comment of using the low pivot bike (and one with moderate progression) for development as coming down to making sure none of the internal architecture caused harshness at higher shaft speeds. I spent a lot of time on the Enduro and had it set up with an Ohlins coil shock. It worked really well. I then figured I'd throw an Ohlins on my Crestline DH bike. It didn't go so well. The shock seems to have a fairly stiff off the shelf tune. With the Enduro being a higher leverage bike, it makes sense that it worked really well on that.
