My bad - I rewatched that section and he said 20% dynamic sag, although not sure if that was his actual numbers or just talking general terms. I had also heard other people talking about 30% fork sag and must mixed them up. Still, 20% is very middle of the road for fork sag and certain riders/conditions/forks will require less than that. It is also possible their static sag is about 25% and combined with wild fast rebound is why the dynamic sag is lower. I've heard people talk 30% sag recently too.....but I don't think it was specified if...

But what about 30% Dynamic sag? I’ve heard some pretty hardcore bike nerds who ride pretty hard, as well as WC guys mention running 30% dynamic f/r. Does that still sound outrageous? Does the amount of travel a bike has dictate how much dyn sag it should be run with for optimum performance?

I was always pretty interested in set up from when I got proper in to mtb 20 years ago, and slowly learned more and more about the physics of mountain bikes, especially as I started to specialise in suspension more around 2009. But it was only about 6 years ago I came to realise that if I actually wanted to measure bikes and learn what was really going on I would need to buy my own dyno & data acquisition gear to do it.There was no one using a dyno or DAQ gear in NZ at that stage (a few...

Rear centre length is a huge proponent to front end grip that gets overlooked. If the CS is long enough, it literally drives the front wheel into the ground almost. My current bike has a 463mm CS, I could put my stem on backwards and still have grip lol. Sure I cant manual now, put my bike on a rack, bunnyhop or make any tight corners, but at least I got grip!

Stoked on this thread - I've been messing around with the MI kit for a few years with mostly good results, though I think they could provide a bit more guidance as the learning curve is a bit steep. Anyone try the BrakeAce kit yet? I have a set but haven't had time to play with it yet, need to track down an Android phone because they don't have an iOS app yet.

I have brakeace. Funny I had to buy a cheap android so I can record also, that kinda bummed me out… But, I think BrakeAce is cool. It’s more of a coaching tool than bike setup tool. I think it will be best used for racing and coaching you where to be off your brakes. Just having it had turned my brain into trying to stay off the brakes or be smoother. its a lot going on when using MI and BrakeAce at the same time. So might be best used when riding alone and focus on a few runs...

There is a problem that exists with super low anti rise that’s always glossed over. If anti rise is too low, the whole bike pitches forward more dramatically under heavy braking. For example, personally I think the enduro has too little anti rise because when slamming on the brakes super hard the rear goes to full extension easier than I’d like. Combined with lots of compression on the fork, it results in the thing riding like it has super steep geo. It also will pitch forward a lot when trying to creep into steep things. On a whole the enduro...

Well said sir. I have 19’ Pike with a C2.1 RC2 damper. The air spring is quite good for stock AFTER burnishing my bushings. The damping on the other hand, when things go consistently rough the spring no longer feels plush due to the harshness coming from the damper. I try to run LSC at least halfway from open but...

@TEAMROBOT I definitely agree on the smashpot vs secus (and by extension vs luftkappe and A1+ air spring). One thing that was very noticeable to me when I first got my zeb, was how much the fork seemed to sink through the mid stroke and would then ramp up hard at the end. There seemed to be some pre-load on the initial air springs (ala c1 air springs in the pike/lyric) that stopped the fork from sinking into it's travel while sitting static without a rider on it. This meant that it wanted to sit with very little sag, very...

Be very (very) careful with setting sag to 30% on a fork, especially in a flat parking lot. I've never found running that much sag to result in a controlled or comfortable ride. Here is why... 1) When we are setting sag we are generally doing it in a flat parking lot. This is not where you ride a bike. In general, the bike is pointed downhill when you want your fork to really perform well which puts a significant amount of weight on the front of the bike changing those sag measurements immensely. (33% is probably closer to 45%...

for what it's worth, I'm riding a 38 @ 180mm no spacers and 115psi, Even if I lawn dart an 8 foot drop to flat I'll still have 5mm left in the tank. If sag is fine, cut the O-ring off, it should be renamed the anxiety ring.

This is my last little quip for the day. I don't have any beef with the material used for anything as long as it works properly. I've never had issues with the material on Magura brakes. Once upon a time I thought max braking torque was the only thing that was important. In reality all decent brakes have more than enough power to lock up you wheels. As much as I wish I could say I only ever break 100% or not at all, the reality is most braking happens in the mid-range. A brake with insane outright stopping power...
