Adding a significant amount of power is always going to cost money. It’s not the same as buying some cranks just to make your bike look cool. If someone has the desire for more power and they have Shimano or TRP 4 pots or Codes there are two options; replace the entire brake set or replace just the caliper. Coincidentally that’s a similar cost. I think in this scenario we are more looking at cost to solve a problem and not how many parts you get for that cost because, again, it’s not just adding bling. I mostly look at dynamic sag and the travel distribution plot to begin with as they will help guide spring rate/pressure/tokens, but can also give some good insights to the damping too. The actual values I expect have a fairly wide range to begin with, and I'll compare them to the other metrics to decide if they are in the ballpark or not (eg 20% dynamic sag at the shock and 28% on the fork could be quite acceptable, but if they are on the same bike then something is out of whack....) A few things to reassure everyone on Conti tires (no affiliation whatsoever). •Like @Dave113 said, the Argotal DH SS 29x2.4 weights 1300G or 1330g, I weighted them on a scale, but I can't find my notes. •The Argotal DH has a burly sidewall and are the hardest tires I've ever put on a rim. They just released the new Mazza Enduro Race line which uses a super soft compound (but maybe for their DH program they run something custom). I have it at home and am a bit hesitant to put it on the bike. Definitely on the heavy side (around 1370g for the 29x2.4 version). Feels soft but in comparison to MaxxGrip which I have brand new here too, it is not on the same level, but hard to say if that is really the best indicator without riding it. Re: Loris and Pirelli, remember that the Pirelli deal is with ALL Trek factory racing riders, which includes DH, Enduro, XC, road, and maybe even CX. This is a big big team deal and, despite being the top dog on the DH team, Loris is small potatoes compared to all the other Trek athletes who have no reason to not run the tires. All this flex stay talk has me thinking about the tuning opportunities of flex stays. If the rear end is flexing as it moves through the travel range, then the rear end will behave like a spring.* This means a bike with flex stays will have an inherent spring rate, even without a rear shock attached. That is really funky behavior when compared to non-flex-stay bikes (traditional bikes?), where the frame movement is supposed to be as effortless as possible, and the spring rate is entirely controlled by the shock setup. What are the chances Jordan Williams is on the Demo Prototype at the next race? Kinda crazy that he beat both his teammates (and everyone else) on the "old" Demo. It's still incredible that all 3 specialized riders were in the top 5.

Looks to be a standard Mazza as far as tread goes. Last summer there was a vittoria rep and a sponsored rider at some eastern states cup races running Mazzas that had the same red hot patches. Kinda got the run around when I asked about them but can assume it’s just some slightly stickier rubber and maybe a bit of extra flat protection (for what it’s worth their enduro casing was pretty bulletproof to begin with compared to doubledown or supergravity) looks like every tire brand was having trouble keeping air in every riders tires at Lenzerheide.

Like many things, both extremes can feel bad in a similar way. So too little HBO (or none) will be harsh on bottom outs as the shock reaches a solid (ish) end point, but too strong of an HBO effect could feel harsh as it ramps up the damping force too suddenly. In reality, each bike and rider is going to be different and what feels like harshness is a sudden change in force which can either be too soft of a spring + damping suddenly transitioning in to a reasonable HBO (side note - soft settings encourage faster compression...
