Why am I sharing this, and why might another rider want to read this? I'm a (modestly) credentialed, (modestly) working scientist with no present affiliation to the any part of the bike industry. Teaching quantitative reasoning and technical communication skills is the lion's share of what I do for work. I'm not a 'sci-comm' professional trying to drive attention toward a podcast about bikes or a bike youtuber trying to grab attention by deploying keywords like data or science. I don't have a vested interest in either bike setup being faster than the other. So let this be my attempt...

Meh, I don't want to be reductive of their statements nor my lackluster reading comprehension but it seemed like a top to bottom nothing burger and where it gets some points in the 'we arent siphoning money from PE sources with no ability to pay them back and massively generating debt'... It still ultimately loses points in the 'this is one of the worst business models to attempt to operate in a massive industry down turn' part. So, call it a moot point at net zero now. I still don't understand what they are legitimately doing differently. From what I...

The life of the current gen range is super interesting. Came out of nowhere kinda received no end of praise but it was never going to be a bike that racers actually used in enduro. Super heavy and squishy. Maybe the existence of the shore at the same time hurt its overall sales since you could buy a squish monster from the same brand for cheaper. Probably tracks way better but if you're a "freeride" guy, do you care? Or do you just care that it has a lot of travel? Seems to have been a really good practice of...

Yeah, absolutely crazy. https://escapecollective.com/the-pros-closet-is-back/ Honestly, I was hoping they would stay down. Having companies like this lead to a dramatically over valued used bike market, with no real turnover.

Personally I thought it was the best rampage ever!!! Except the wind. Would've been nice to see more second runs. Also the broadcast was what 9 hrs? Greatly appreciate the commitment from everyone involved to keep the magic of a live event. Totally support it being on ESPN plus but why geo restrict it on RedBull. Just let people use their preferred app. Or they will just circumvent you or not watch live. I find most the people calling foul about judging comical. Semenuk won again with his winning line from the same venue by massively increasing the technicality and...

At 70% travel there is a singularity which allows your spring force to simultaneously be three different values. Some hypothesize that if you can push past 70% travel you will bridge spacetime and land in a parallel universe.

Hey biz thread subscribers, I met with Jeff about a month ago for an Inside Line to discuss the current state of things. It was a rad discussion. The podcast and its copy are below. Enjoy! I know I did. Thanks to Maxxis Tires | FOX | Jenson USA for supporting The Inside Line Today we're joined by Jeff Brines, a long-time mountain biker, Litter Mag and Vital MTB fan. He's also educated and versed in finance. He kicked off a forum thread on Vital MTB that asked " Will more companies be shutting down in the next 12-24 months?"...

It's cool that they offer coil now. But I don't think I could give up the tunability and ending-stroke support of their 3-chamber air spring. It's one of the few forks I've ridden lately that truly becomes more controlled and supportive the more energy you drive through it.

I know there is a 2 year exclusivity for specialized and fox for the genie. I just can’t remember what they said happens after that. It could be that speci will loop rockshox in at that point, so we could theoretically be seeing or will see a rockshox genie either being tested or going to market. Again, I can’t remember how the speci/fox genie exclusivity thing works

The issue is the judging doesn't make sense year on year, but then again maybe thats because Rampage itself doesn't seem to know what it is anymore - lets face it the actual event day is a spectacle, a hype fest, and more of a made for TV event than one thats scheduled to actually allow the riders to thrown down the best runs. For me the actual concept of a freeride competition doesn't sit right - freeride is ultimately about fun, expression, and pushing the limits, all of which mean differnet things to differnet people. Ultimately its a human...

It's already happening in the comments... But unfortunately there is no possible, logical, fathomable way to convince people the judges know what they are doing when Zink wins last year and then TVS gets 4th this year. Meanwhile Godziek probably had the best overall and Rampage-esque run, both years, and didn't win. And then a big slope run from Semenuk can win any year. So, ultimately, if they want to say that which I believe they have ultimately... Then sure a big slope run is the future of Rampage and that's how you win. Copy Semenuk or lose to Semenuk...
