7/1/2025 10:11am Wasn't the Guide RE a Guide R lever combined with a Code-sized caliper? I never tried them but I remember reading a lot of (relatively) positive reviews. If so that kind of setup works well enough.

7/1/2025 9:36am The cam for a firmer bite point has me extremely interested. Glad to see they’re still DOT. I’m getting more and more mineral oil brakes and I find them annoying. They’re not the massive improvement that people claim. I can get DOT fluid anywhere at any time (you can even take some from your car reservoir if you’re in a pinch), I don’t want to buy your special flavor of baby oil that you colored purple or some shit. I also hate cleaning up mineral oil. DOT fluid is a bit nasty, but it’s soluble in water so it just...

6/15/2025 8:41pm A lot of good thoughts here, but just to play devil's advocate, have we considered the possibility that he's right and we're all stupid and everyone in the bike industry has collectively been doing it wrong for 30-40 years and he alone can tell us the answer and it requires buying this expensive new product from his webstore? I mean at least consider it, is what I'm saying.

6/15/2025 6:41pm No, we haven’t been measuring sag wrong. Any method of measuring sag that is repeatable is an acceptable way to measure sag. As it is something that must be tuned as opposed to setting to a specific percentage, being able to repeatably measure sag is the most important thing. You can do this seated and measuring at the shock just fine. If someone wants to measure it with a whole bunch of kit that’s fine, but telling everyone they are wrong and do it wrong is silly. It is definitely worth noting that on more progressive bikes you shouldn’t be...

6/7/2025 6:06am I'm at Leogang this weekend and wanted to get a sense of how widely pedal kickback devices have been adopted by World Cuppers, along with all the other wild accessories like TMD's/shakeweights, electronics, gearboxes, and more. So out of curiosity and as a service to my fellow nerds, I stood at the top of Q1 today and counted all the devices I could. Note that certain devices were almost certainly undercounted, like shakeweights, added mass, and fancy chainring devices like Ochain or Rimpact (drivetrains were facing away from me in the starting lineup). There were 20 bikes total where I...

6/6/2025 1:51pm UDH isn’t proprietary. SRAM doesn’t charge bike manufacturers to use it. Personally I think the UDH is a good thing AND I think the SRAM direct mount derailleur is a bad idea.

6/4/2025 9:24am Here's how roller wear manifests as elongation. Though it's perhaps inaccurate this elongation is colloquially referred to as 'stretch'.

6/2/2025 6:54am The rear brake normally does at least as much work, if not quite a lot more than the front. Not many people are truly 50/50 if you look at something like brakeace data, so its normal for the rear to get hotter. You can often see its more common for rear rotors to be discoloured more than the front too

5/29/2025 10:22am Everyone knows the only way to get your bars and levers juuuust right is to adjust them with a rusty multi-tool in the trailhead parking lot while your buddies are waiting on you to start the ride. The more exasperated your friends are, the more precise the alignment.

5/29/2025 9:59am Can I patent the ole one eye squint? For real tho, equalizing the gap on each side between the sanctions and bars is way easier than aligning the stem with the tire.
