4/15/2026 8:08am I think hucking to flat or nose casing a jump are both examples of extremely high frequency loads. A low frequency load would be a frame and fork bolted into a hydraulic test rig in a lab, where the force is cranked up slowly and consistently. Think about shaft speeds on a damper. Either one of those impacts would be considered a very high frequency (aka high shaft speed) impact, even if they don't literally happen over and over again at a high frequency. Just because I'm not hucking to flat 5 times per second doesn't mean I'm not applying...

4/15/2026 8:07am For high frequency loads it can. AFAIK Hucking to flat or nose casing a jump would be a low frequency load and it would be reasonable to approximate it as static and assume that full force is transferred.

4/15/2026 8:05am In static cases that is true, in dynamic cases the stiffness influences the peak force that is transmitted.

4/7/2026 12:09pm Really interesting to see the travel overlap between the Lyrik and Zeb at 150, 160, and 170mm. I'm curious to see some back to back comparison at the same travel options (if that's planned).

4/2/2026 12:25pm This is something that we have not historically shared. Of course these can be reverse-engineered to a relatively accurate degree, although our engineering team prefers to keep the secret sauce a secret.

3/3/2026 12:39pm When I owned a Levo 3, I got a spherical eyelet bushing for the front of the shock to try and reduce loads on it from the yoke. This had an unexpected consequence that I didn't recognize the connection on until after I sold it: I could not keep the bearings in the seatstay pivot from unseating because the frame design relied on the stiffness of the shock to keep the rear end aligned. It was so bad that I could unseat them on demand with 1 hard cutty. I'm never buying a yoke-driven bike again.

3/3/2026 12:35pm The bike that launched the shock-destroying, clevis-extension era! The notched design with bolt on arms was a half baked emergency measure. The frame was originally designed for an elegant, albeit proprietary, one piece shock/yoke. Unfortunately the entire in-house suspension program at Specialized was scrapped before it ever made it to production. The notch/arm design was created to allow the use of any standard shock. I notched quite a eyelets in the Morgan Hill shop before the big suspension OEs got up to speed. There were only Qty8 of these beauties ever made. Nicknamed The Tuning Fork, they produced a lovely...

2/5/2026 9:21am As a mechanic, I often wonder about our survivorship bias in the store. We obviously meet customers who turn away when we quote how much is going to be involved with repairing their bike, but there's a whole fleet of people who never step foot in our door, either deciding based upon online quotes on labour and parts, or trying their hand at it themselves and not knowing what parts need to be replaced, and more or less giving up prior to actually knowing what's going on. Around here bikes have more than a bit of a reputation for being...

1/22/2026 10:24am If designed to the same max load, a 35 mm bar is approximately 10% stiffer. The required cross sectional area of the 35 mm bar is also smaller, so it would be lighter. Below is an example where the bar is evaluated as a basic cantilevered beam where the length is 400 mm and the load is 450 N. r1 and r2 correspond to the 35 mm bar and r3 and r4 correspond to the 31.8 mm bar.

1/6/2026 10:08am As someone who was there from the very beginning (okay EWS #2), I think the story arc of EWS/EDR is a bit more complex that people think, and that Chis Ball is not the boogie man some make him out to be. EWS was not just Chis Ball, it was a run by a board, with Chis as the most public facing member of the organization. Keep in mind that in 2013 enduro racing was seen as an exciting new sport (yes I know, it wasn't new in France and Italy) and the timing was perfect with new wheel sizes...

11/6/2025 10:54am Every topic is just one nudge away from a chainstay debate. Not to beat the dead horse here... but I see it both ways. I'm currently riding bikes with 450+ chainstays paired with ~500mm reaches. That being said, I had a megatower 1 with a 495 reach and 435/445 chainstays with a flipchip adjustment. I actually preferred the 435mm chainstays in certain situations and riding areas. Pheonix, Tucson, Santacruz and steeps in laguna, the 435mm setting was pretty rad. Go to the bike park, or race enduros, the 445m stays were the answer. I think we all need to embrace...

11/5/2025 7:27am Thanks & great question - it's a longer answer than we can reasonably sum up here, but we'll do our best. Your assessment is correct - an "agile" ride character has always been somewhat of a hallmark here at Evil. We try to walk the line between agile/fun, and stable/confident. Short stays make for fun wheelies & jumps, thus, we've always stayed on the shorter side. There's a great argument for size-specific chainstay lengths - that much, we do not debate. Our rear triangles are a relatively complex mold. Molds are quite expensive. Introducing another rear triangle mold increases total...

10/30/2025 8:42am What significance is there in the reach matching the chainstay? Or, to put it another way, I hope your seat tube length will also match the same value. It's about as important.
